no idea what to do here in terms of a supervised covid test for the USA….
I have the following outbound itinerary
(1) Manchester to Heathrow, Thursday 23rd, 20:15 (no other connecting flight for (2) was/is available – staying at Hilton T5)
(2) Heathrow to Las Vegas, Friday 24th, 16:40
Both flights on the same booking. What on earth can I do in terms of a supervised COVID test?
I was thinking of doing a test on Friday at the hotel, but this is AFTER my check-in at Manchester – so I assume isnt valid.
Perhaps do a test at 16:40 on Thursday, but I need to be heading to Manchester airport around this time, and extremely unlikely I can have the result sorted and uploaded to verifly between 16:40 and check-in at Manchester.
At a bit of a loss what to do really.
No dilema at all.
The test does not have to be within 24 hours of the USA flight departure time (thats an incorrect myth) but can be any time the day before.
Do do the test early on the Thursday morning whilst you are still at home and if you do test + then at least you are at home giving you more timne to cancel the tips.
Thanks – just what i needed to read. Appreciate that.
(this USA supervised test needs dropping, I’m not sure what purpose it actually serves now – apart from stress and expenditure)
You can book a webcam supervised test. That way you can do it at your convenience (you will be asked to schedule a time and date and it takes like 20min in total).
The test process is a joke. I don’t object to the requirement, just how it in reality works. I self-tested at Fenchurch St station for an observed test, can’t remember who it was, the person doing the test was chatting to colleague the entire time, near zero observation.
I’ve since test twice at T5 with the people at the south end of arrivals floor. In each occasion the swab was barely inserted, more tickled round the base of each nostril, nothing like the instruction in the NHS kits.
Most recent test was a Klarity video call. I was actually sat in the corridor near gate 24 at London City doing it. The process was OK, but once the test was done she said she’d be back in 10 minutes or so to view the test cassette. The thing is no record had been made of the test cassette, and anything could have been substituted in.
This doesn’t even touch on Klarity supplying identical certificates for self administered tests based on a photo as they do for the supervised tests.
Whole thing is a sham.
I’m in a similar dilemma as BA moved our 4pm MAN-LHR connection for our next day flight to 1300, which means we would struggle to get in-person tests done and back in time. We’ve booked Azova video tests for just after midnight so the date is correct and hope it all works as it’s supervised from the US! Plenty of Americans seem to use them without any issues.
Agree the testing is bonkers – GCM insists on the day before but pax flying from the UK will be sharing a plane which is calling at NAS which only requires a test within 72 hours so there’s no rhyme or reason to it!
@Mick, you don’t have to worry about the testing anymore!
