Forums Payment cards American Express Claiming for lost items on Amex/Curve insurance

I’ve lost valuables on a trek in Himalayas, but with my flight times i do not have time to go to a Nepalese police station for an official report , can I still make a claim?

Does it make a difference claiming it from amex or curve?

Should I claim against the policy with the lower excesses?

Sorry for not being very helpful, but if you don’t say 1) what insurance you are referring to (Amex have plenty from purchase protection to travel insurance) 2) what the items were 3) whether the trek was considered a normal holiday activity by Amex (may well be not, so the activity is not covered) 4) did you pay for the trek and associated travel in the Amex?

    Then we can’t really answer.

As a general rule however, no police report no claim.

    Apologies for the omissions.

Yes, trek and flights paid for by Amex Platinum.
It’s a regular trek, no high passes, staying in tea houses with a guide.
    Glasses, sunglasses, wallet, clothing, headphones…

Plat and Curve expect you to report to Police, transport or accommodation provider within 48 or 24 hours respectively. Are you able to get someone locally to report it for you? Even if it is technically outside the time limits, it might improve your prospects of a successful claim. Unfortunately, it’s a fairly basic requirement for insurers to want some sort of evidence of loss.
