Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Clarification on tier points to renew BA Silver – 300 or 450 tier points?

  • 91 posts

Quick question – I have 380 tier points – my Tier point collection period end 6 August 22

In my BA Exec account today it says I need to get to 450 points to get Silver renewed

I found this on the BA site Is this accurate eg 300 only are needed ? as I would prefer to not have to fly somewhere in next few weeks to get to 450 ? It looks bone fide but wanted to double check if anyone knows if Silver renewal is 450 or the 300 stated below THANKS !

“We’ve been through a lot together recently and we’d like to thank you for your continued loyalty and support during this challenging time.

We’ve already reduced the number of Tier Points needed to renew your Silver status or upgrade to Gold by 25%, until 31 December 2022.

We’re now going a step further and temporarily reducing the threshold to renew your Silver status by 50% for the remainder of your current Tier Point Collection Year. If you earn a total of 300 Tier Points by your next Tier Point Collection Year end date, your Silver status will automatically be renewed for another year.

Your Tier Point tracker on ba.com and the British Airways app will continue to show a threshold of 450 Tier Points. Please rest assured we have activated your reduced Tier Point threshold”

I haven’t paid attention to this as my membership year doesn’t end in July, August or September 2022, but yea, looks genuine and real!

Yes this is genuine if your TP year ends in July, August or September 2022 only, BA further reduced the TP requirements to 300 to retain Silver status. It is not to allow you to gain status. You should have received an email back in May about this (assuming you allow BA to send you marketing guff). My OH received the email.

Edit I think you still need the 4 qualifying flights as well

I don’t think i received the email but reading the info on the link provided by PeteM – I am now confused:

Question: Does the 50% reduction apply to all 2022 tier point end-dates – it reads that way to me?

Am I correct in reading from the FAQ from the same link – that those with Tier point end dates in October-December 2022 will also have the increased (50%) threshold applied – at a later date or assume by contacting the call center?

We have automatically applied the reduced threshold to Silver Members with Tier Point Collection Year end dates in July, August and September 2022. If you collect 300 Tier Points by the end of your current Tier Point Collection Year, or fly with us on 25 eligible flights, your Silver status will automatically renew.

My understanding is that it only applies to July to September TP year ends. Everyone else has until 31 Dec 2022 to renew or gain Silver with 450TP. On 1 Jan 2023 the threshold reverts to 600TP

I say this as in the FAQ it also says: Please note, the Tier Point tracker on ba.com will continue to show a threshold of 450 Tier Points as this reduction does not apply to all Members.

My TP tracker shows 600TP to renew anyway. But I would be happy if it did apply. My TP year ends 8 Feb. I am going for 450TP points by 31 Dec if I can. Am looking at a double TP BA holiday in late September 2022 to achieve it.

I am fairly certain this is correct.

All the accounts with a year end date in 2023 shows the regular targets (eg. 600 for silver) but if you hit 450 by 31/12/22 you get/retain Silver

Yes you are correct but I wrote that because what we are actually seeing contradicts this statement in the FAQs: “Your Tier Point tracker on ba.com and the British Airways app will continue to show a threshold of 450 Tier Points.”

I just had my silver renewed with 380 avois last week. Not sure of the finer details but I definitely got an email a few months back stating it wouldn’t mention it on the app but I would get it.
