Hoping that someone can enlighten me on the following as I thought I understood the rules but am now unsure.
Mother recently flew CE. When she went to the BA lounge at LGW but was denied entry as even though she was on a CE ticket, she only had Exec Blue status. My understanding was that the ticket class alone was sufficient for entry.
She will be flying CW later in the year (LHR for that flight rather than LGW). Is the same going to happen?
CE does give lounge access.
Something clearly went wrong here.
Perhaps she tried to go to the F lounge side and misunderstood what she was told by the reception staff?
What was the route she was flying?
She was ticketed in CE on BA and was denied entry to the business lounge? I would complain as that’s completely wrong. status is irrelevant for entry for the ticketed passenger the class of travel gives access. I can’t believe a BA staff member made that mistake.
It shouldn’t happen at LGW or LHR or any other BA lounge as all Club Europe and Club World tickets come with access to a business lounge (where available) they can also use another oneworld lounge but for that you need to check the oneworld lounge finder for exact rules.
I was thinking among the same lines of miscommunication, but surely the staff would say something like ‘you need to use this side’ rather than ‘you can’t go in there’. After all there is only one reception desk.

Yeah usually they walk you to the right side. Something must’ve been completely mis understood by either party or both. But if the OPs mother has any issues insist she asks where the right lounge is as per her travel class.
Flew CE Ex LHR the week before last and we definitely had lounge access, but as we approached the BA lounge staff just waved us on as it was ‘too busy’, we ended up in another lounge, no idea which one it was, and snagged the last couple of seats and a coffee and pastry. The wonders of modern travel. Something must have gone wrong if they wouldn’t let your Mum in as we are blues.
It should have been clear from her boarding pass, that is really odd. About 10 years ago I treated a friend to a CE trip to France with avios and when we got to T5 Galleries the lounge dragon insisted that our tickets didn’t entitle us to lounge access. I stood my ground and showed her my booking confirmation which clearly said we did have lounge access. She went off and consulted with a colleague then acknowledged she was wrong, saying that it was difficult to tell which ticket type we were on.
I remember it quite well because it was a bit embarrassing and also because it’s the only time it’s ever happened in all my years of doing 2/3 CE/CW trips per year.
So in the very unlikely event that it happens again, refer to your booking or confirmation email!
The first time I flew CE I was told at check-in that I didn’t have lounge access when I asked which lounge I could use. I didn’t know any better back then 🙁
