Hi there. Planning to fly to NY soon and I have two options, either depart from LGW or LHR. Has anyone experienced both and if so, which do you recommend? I usually go from LHR but the LGW flight is a better time… just want to be sure the experience is as nice as it is at LHR!
Chances are you’ll be in old CW on the LGW flight, but will get Club Suites ex Heathrow.
On the flip side the LGW lounges seem better regarded. LHR Club lounges are now comical, at least mid-afternoon. Expect queues to get in the door and a battle to then get a seat.
But 8hrs in the plane versus 1hr in the lounge (or upgrade yourself to ‘spoons) – think i’d be favouring LHR unless it’s a complete shag or an arrival time into NYC.
As you say the LGW flight is a better time so that counts more in my book
If you don’t drive to the airport, why not do both? LGW outbound and LHR inbound. As much as the old seats are slagged off by frequent flyers, the service is the same and they are only bad in comparison with newer seats. Of course it depends upon what you mean by better times as experience in the destination trumps new versus old seat for me.
