So Im sure there will be some small print that probably says you cant have more than one account but just wondering if anyone has ever been in the same situation?
My wife currently travels in her maiden name due to old passport but as she has a BAPP AMEX card she was forced to create a new BA account in her married name for the points to transfer to (Avios kept bouncing back when we linked her maiden name BA account to the AMEX card years ago.)
We flew last week and gained Bronze status which ideally she’d like to keep but having used our last 2-4-1 voucher booked in her maiden name and 3 new ones currently in her married name we are going to have to update her passport to be able to use the 2-4-1 vouchers in her married name.
Has anyone been able to combine two accounts into one and transfer the status and points over and close the maiden name account?
Are you saying she currently has 2 BAEC accounts, it’s not clear?

Yes
One that she flys on as her passport is maiden name
One she earns Avios from Amex card as its in her married name

I believe you can merge two BAEC accounts, but it may be necessary to change the maiden name one to the married name one first with whatever documentation they require, so there could be a hiatus in transfer of Amex points. If you call BAEC, they will sort this out for you.
It is possible to add both accounts to a HHA and just start using the married name for bookings (which you’ll need to do to be able to use the 241s). Or so I’m told. Passport and booking names will need to be the same, of course.
I found it easier to just keep on using my maiden name for all travel-related stuff, never been an issue.
Yea we have a HHA as we also generously are able to use her mum for AMEX cards and we spend as supps and use the points.
It’s never been a problem before now since I was the one earning the 2-4-1 vouchers but ever since the 24month rule came in our strategy changed whereby she keeps a BAPP and me and her mum sit on the side line until our 24months are up to play the game from scratch. (I’m free to play from 14th Feb)
Also having just earned Bronze status last week and her being able to extend it by 12months with maternity in the next 6months it would be nice to keep it in her married name going forward for when mine runs out.
Her maiden name account is now redundant other than the fact she has 18,000 Avios and Bronze status on it.
P.S. I’m sure we must live relatively close NorthernLass from things I’ve picked up on in conversations, we are near Chorley.
Not far away at all, @PaulC! You can have both accounts in the HHA with one lying dormant and still use the avios as they are taken pro-rata. This is probably contrary to the Ts and Cs but as long as you’re only making bookings in one name, it’ll likely never be flagged up. But if you have any concerns, approach BA about merging the accounts – after all it’s a regular occurrence for people to change their names on marriage in this country.
