Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Companion Voucher & Differing Avios Splits

I assume this is possible but can i use different Avios combinations for the out and in legs of my trip. For example:

    Outward:
Use the least amount of Avios required but highest cash

    Inward:
Use the highest amount of Avios required but lowest cash

Just wanted to know if you have to use the same combination for each leg of the journey. I presume not but as its my first time using one id just like to check so im fully prepated for booking next month! Thanks.

Both legs have to be the same cash / Avios combination, this has been clearly documented many times.

With a Companion voucher, it makes most economic sense to use maximum avios. As you get double value per avios

I think this is all the choice you are offered, not 100% sure

Thanks for the reply, I have used this site a fair bit but must have missed this. Please could you point me to where this is documented? Thanks.

I got it wrong you can now pay avios and money at any level.

However using max avios is by far best value for money.

The the T&Cs say redeeming the companion voucher you can choose the level of avios. They treat companion voucher as a single entity, no mention of outward different to return or booking separately

Doing it as two separate redemption is a special case only if you book before return available a bit outsiderules but allowed. Even then I’d book at same split or they might not let you combine bookings and claim avios back.

Max avios is best value for money with a companion voucher

When booking outbound and return separately, it was possible (April 2024) to book at two separate Avios/cash levels and get the 50% reduction on both legs. Though certainly have been reports of some (possibly majority) of agents not allowing this.
