@NorthernLass Be wary of the Duracell batteries that are Baby Secure, the coating prevents them from working unless you wipe it off. One way is to lick them, not something I will be doing twice.
Try to lick a 9v and get back to us.
Thank you for your input everyone . I still can’t decide if I want to risk downgrading to the free card , I certainly won’t be cancelling AMEX altogether though . I have a few weeks before I make a decision , so I will keep an eye on any further reports on here.
Just to be clear using an Amex to redeem using a 2 for 1 will okay or do you need to keep the same/downgraded one till travel too?
Not 100% relevant but having activated the 2 for 1 voucher on player 2’s card (which she still has) in mid-July, we’ve had a few refunds that have since taken us under £10k by £100 or so. The counter is back on her BA Amex homepage. Was that normal? Voucher is still there. Wouldn’t mind if it was taken away actually so I can push validity out when I spend the £100 🙂
There haven’t been any reported cases of the voucher being taken back due to refunds, but as Bob Dylan nearly put it, times they do seem to be a changing just now!
Normally the voucher would stay put and you’d need to make up the spend before you could start earning next year’s voucher.
After already receiving my 241, a refund took my BAPP counter to “spend £1,000” to receive your 241 by Jan 2024. (Focused spend on Barclays).
Will my counter reset in Jan 2024 to start from 0 or will I have to make up the difference first from 2023?
You need to make up the spend at some point, if you do it before January you’ll only have to spend another £10k once your counter re-starts.
Is this a thing, or is this a glitch in the matrix?
I was about to cancel my BAPP and now I’m not so sure. I don’t want to be the one to confirm this!
I am hoping it is just a BA IT glitch – the way that our future bookings flash in and out of existence on the BA site – has anyone seen this for vouchers?I’ve also hit the £10k threshold and have received my companion voucher.
Membership year ends late January 2024, so am keen to get a pro rata refund while I still can.
So, to be clear, I should downgrade to the free card, rather than cancel BAPP?

Yes. Just to be safe than sorry.
It would be interesting know whether @tanvir and @simonjones are still missing their vouchers.

Agreed!
Any ideas how to see whether @tanvir or @simonjones have seen the updates to this thread since they posted?

The OP created this thread, dropped a bombshell then ran, so I’m suspicious to say the least. @simonjones seems a more regular poster, but hasn’t returned to post since their contribution on this thread. I’m sensing flakey BA IT is the cause of this, red herring no doubt.
I made a comment in the retention offers thread, but I thought it’s worth it to mention it here too.
I contacted Amex by chat today to ask about retention offers on my BA black Amex, and they said I could downgrade to the blue card but:
“Please be informed that if you will cancel your British Airways Premium Plus Card you will also lose your companion voucher because there are taxes and fees that needs to be paid when one redeem a Companion Voucher, so if you cancel your Amex BA , you won’t be able to redeem it.”They ended up giving me the £3k spend for 10k Avios offer so I didn’t tempt fate to see if the voucher would disappear.

this sounds slightly butchered. The rules have been changed to allow you to pay the taxes and fees with any Amex, that’s clear now. There is a separate rule relating to holding the (a) Ba card, which has been discussed on many, many occasions.

1) There has not been a single verified instance of a voucher dissapearing. Once in your BAEC account there is no apparent mechanism for them to remove it. I think we can safely discount the OP’s post here.
2) Yes, according to the T&C’s there is the risk it could be removed. However, see point 1.
3) It was (and may still be) that Amex/BA terms are that the BAPP card is required to pay for the booking. At present though any flavour of Amex card, with any owner can be used, BUT of course this could always change. Same as point 2.
4) Making a booking and later cancelling it does not reset the 24month companion voucher clock.I thought HfP was going to do a FAQ or community wiki on this stuff. It’s clearly needed.
@CarpalTravel – the idea that BA or Amex can’t touch your voucher really is for the birds. While I’m not saying it will happen, you will have observed a number of instances where this does actually happen for different reasons.
A few examples are validity changes which we know can be done and that date change isn’t only one way – it can be brought forward to invalidate it immediately. Also, if people end up with the free card one by mistake Amex removes the voucher and replaces it but also has the ability to change the voucher from the free one to the BAPP. There are other changes that can also be made.
While you may be right on the overall concept, it is quite wrong to perpetuate the myth that any voucher is untouchable.
Data point. Voucher triggered 30 Nov 2023. Card closed about 10 days ago, voucher still in account. Hopefully OP’s made some kind of mistake in what they reported.
+1 re Wiki, these for topics that continually get revisited would be so useful.

Who said they remove it immediately? The requirement is to be eligible for the promotion at the time of travel. It will most likely be OK, but it seems rather premature to be counting your chickens after just ten days.
I’m not sure community wikis or FAQs on how to circumvent Amex/BA’s Ts and Cs are a great idea, TBH.
The use of any Amex is an IT quirk, that’s all. If a BA agent thinks you’re not using the right card, they will refuse to make the booking or refund you any avios.Data point. No Chicken counting reporting as is and hoping stays that way.
Agree re no Wiki for this kind of thing, however for the routine factual situations so often posted, think would be very useful, some would even suit simplified charts. Of course if this is of interest to HFP is another matter.
Routine factual situations which are a breach of Ts and Cs and could get your tickets cancelled. A reader posted a few months ago that BA spotted they had used a Mastercard to make an outbound 241 booking by phone (which must have been accepted in error by the previous agent) and charged the poster full avios to complete the booking, for both legs. I can also attest that they can be eagle-eyed – once I booked an outbound with the BAPP but when I came to book the inbound I got distracted and my laptop auto filled the wrong Amex details, which I didn’t spot. I then called to reclaim the avios and the agent spotted the 2 different cards on the booking and told me I had to cancel and rebook with the BAPP. Fortunately it was within the 24 hour free cancellation period or it would have been a £70 mistake!

Over the last decade I have seen the mighty trip adviser virtually die in some forums as people ask questions and are just told to go look on google maps.
