Hi
I have the free BA Amex card , actually just upgraded to the premium card
However
I have 2 x companion vouchers at the moment but as they are only available in ecomomy
1 voucher expires 29th July
the other 11th April next year
I have a wife and 6 year old
Also have another aged 17
Is it possible for me to use both vouchers for the 3 of us as I am not sure the 17 year old will want to go ?
The other option is to leave the 6 year old at home and go on 2 seperate trips with my wife
The problem is
I cannot find any e voucher flights to anywhere from scotland or UK for that matter through the BA exec club website
Looking to go somewhere roughly 19th July for 7 or 10 days
I have been on hold now for over a hour with the exec club to try get through to see if they can help
Also I have read online that there is no value with these economy e vouchers , well defo not long haul , so I guess short haul is best option ?
But with the high taxes , am I wasting my time with trying to use these vouchers and just forget about them ?
I look forward to any help
Assuming the vouchers are both in your name, then no can’t be used by the three of you. Only 2
or 4.I can see lots of economy flights to Hong Kong later in the year and I think Tokyo too. But you want to go on holiday the first week of school summer, not sure what you expect! Calling the helpline won’t help if you can’t see anything online. To your other thread, £2.99 seatspy subscription might be the way to go.
Value is an opinion not a rule, we are going through a period where last minute cancellation might be needed so we would use vouchers for long haul economy if that is all that is available. Given you can use the max avios option with the voucher which will min tax, there might still be some value left but you need to do the math and be happy.
You will get value from the vouchers if travelling in school holidays, even in economy. Where are you looking to go though? There should still be a decent amount of availability to European and US destinations, for example.
If searching from Scotland, you will have to factor in whether the domestic flights have availability as these get booked up fairly quickly. Consider separate searches and possibly staying overnight at LHR or LGW before your connecting flight.
You can make a booking for 3 of you using 1 voucher to reduce the total amount of avios required by 1/3, as long as there are 3 seats available in your cabin.
High taxes are not an issue if flying short haul as you’ll just pay the RFS fee. Give us a clue about where you want to go!
Just by way of example, I did 2 searches on SeatSpy just now and 4+ CE/CW seats to Malaga and NYC are available on your travel dates. Plenty of availability from EDI and GLA as well. I’m not sure why you’re not seeing anything! You can do all this online without giving yourself the pain of calling BA.

I have upgraded to the £2.49 seatspy plan
I am seeing it’s potential with flights to book with avios
But my 1st priority is to use up this economy companion flight ending 29th July . or if cheaper just use both up but defo the one expiring soon
My problem seems to be when I see the flights on seat spy , they are not on companion search from BA
I just need to get my head around this as at the moment I am going around in cirles and not finding anything
Would you be so kind to show me
Step by step how you would find a companion flight from roughly 19th July for 7 or 10 days
To anywhere in Europe or further
I appreciate this is a big ask and I understand if you don’t have the time to guide me in the right direction

Thanks for your reply
Much Appreciated
I know it is a big ask and if it not possible
I will simply let that 29th july companion voucher expire and concentrate on using the other one
Spain or anywhere in Europe is fine just to use the bloody thing up , lol
I hate seeing things go to waste , I know it is my own fault leaving it so late though
Starting the search in London is no problems
Where do you want to depart from? Are you starting on the booking page in your account which shows your vouchers? If the one you want to use isn’t selected already, click on it before you go any further.
There are economy seats London to Paris leaving on the 19th and returning on the 27th. 6 outbound but only 2 on the return which means it won’t show anything if you’re trying to book for 3. In this instance you could simply book the 3rd flight separately – either all for cash, or avios outbound and cash inbound. This would work with any short haul destination – on long haul you’d be stuck paying through the nose for a one-way trip so not worth it.
Try searching without the voucher for 1 seat and the system will show you how many there are available. You can then start again with the voucher if you wish.
London – Boston, 6 economy seats going out on July 20th and coming back on the 29th.
Do a standard “book with avios” search for 1 person until you find dates with enough seats, then start again with the companion voucher.
Search for Edinburgh to Boston, out on 20 July, back on 28 July.
Using the voucher should be 60,000 Avios + £200 for two people.
You also get to come back on the day flight that Northern Lass rates!
You’ll note as a fellow Scot, I’m sending to New England rather than Old England.
Smiley face.
Well that’s it then. The Brains Trust of headforpoints has decreed you will go to Boston.
Pack yer bags!
And finally, as I am only watching a re-run of Midsomer Murders just now, I did a “Where can I go?” search on SeatSpy for a couple of days either side of your preferred dates and it came up with 4 USA destinations, 4 in Asia and 36 in Europe!!
Indeed – that day flight is much better than a red eye (as I believe they call it), as long as you can deal with the 5 am check in!
@Froggee, I was in Glasgow last weekend, it rained. But a darn sight quicker to get to than that London!Or Pittsburgh or Kuwait if New England doesn’t cut the mustard 😂
I can’t believe I’m still doing this but if you want a short flight and beaches you have Nice, Marseille and Montpellier to choose from. I’m tempted myself but will have just returned from Vienna that week!

Your very helpful , very much appreciated
However
Everytime I do the same search as you with seat spy or through the BA site , I am getting defferent results
I know its a big ask
But is there any way we can do a search together?
That way you are teaching me excactly how to do it
I just want to understand the whole process incase I mess it up
Then I will know how to do it all
Ping us a msg on whatsapp +447801838455 if your ok with this and we can go through it
If not , no worries I understand if your not comfortable with it
What exactly do you mean, different results? Where are you looking to fly to? I can’t explain it any better on WhatsApp than I can on here!
Also you probably shouldn’t post your phone number on a public site.
I’m just waiting for some pasta to cook, tell me if this is what you are doing:
For simplicity, let’s search for avios seats to Nice, one way.
Log in to your BAEC account. On the BA home page top left there is an option “book a flight”. Hover over it and you will get another option “book with avios”. Click on this.
You will then be taken to your account home page. One of your vouchers will be pre-selected, instead, click on “don’t use any vouchers”.
Fill in the boxes LHR to NCE on July 18th, and tick “one way”, then hit the search button.
You will then see all the London to Nice availability for that day (with the option to look at a few days before and after). However many seats are available will show in the economy and club europe boxes on the screen. To book, you need to click on the cabin you want and go from there.Do this and tell me if it works. If you can find your required number of seats in both directions, you can then start over, using your 241 to actually make your booking!

Will report back in a bit

Hi
Ok
Here is my findings
I found return flights with 3 x seats
LHR – NCE – 8.15PM – 18-7-23
NCE – LHR – 21.45PM – 26-7-23
Total price if paying cash = £571.64 for 3 x pax and luggage
Booking 1x Adult and 1 x 6 year old with companion voucher = 18.500 avios + £2.00
Booking 1 x Adult with Avios on seperate booking = 18,500 avios + £2.00
So total to pay = £4.00 plus 37,000 avios
Summary
Total price is paying cash = £571.64 for 3 x pax and luggage
£4 cash spend = saving off £567.64 if using 1 x companion voucher
However if valuing the avios at £0.01 each
37,000 avios spent = £370.00 + £4 charge = £374.00
£571.64
– £374.00
= £197.64 savingDoes this sound about right ?
Is it a good deal
Or not
I guess there is better deals to be had , as this is my 1st try
I look forward to any feedback
But thanks again Northern Lass , at least I know how to do it now
Really appreciate that

Northern Lass , you quoted
I did 2 searches on SeatSpy just now and 4+ CE/CW seats to Malaga and NYC are available on your travel dates. Plenty of availability from EDI and GLA as well.
When I put in EDI – AGP on seat spy , it says results not found
All it offers me from EDI is
CMF
FLR
SOU
LON
Am I doing something wrong here?
GLA – only offers me London
MAN only offers me Billund
ABZ only offers me London
I also put in the dates for EDI to anywhere from 17 July to 21 July , returning 25th July to 29th July for 3 x pax and it comes up only London
I don’t put a cash value on avios unless I’ve bought them, which is very rarely. So I just class the cost as the surcharges.
The vast majority of BA services are from London – if you’re hoping for anything else you’re going to be disappointed. I assumed you knew that, tbh! So you’ll need to get to London one way or another – either on a connecting flight or under your own steam.
As I said earlier, you will need to search domestic connections separately as a lot of availability will have already been taken this close to your travel dates. SeatSpy is showing EDI and GLA to London airports but you will need to find flights which fit in with your international sector if that’s the way you’re getting there.
So – find your domestic connection and your connecting flights, then book them as one with your voucher. Unfortunately on short haul you have to pay for the domestic leg but there’s no getting round that.
SeatSpy doesn’t show flights with domestic connections so you would need to search (e.g) EDI-LHR separately from LHR-NCE.
It does sound as though you need to read all the available articles on here and other sites about the best way to get redemption flights before you plan your next trip!
