    I have recently upgraded from a longstanding Reward CC to the paid for card and Virgin have taken the £160 fee but wouldn’t grant the 18,000 bonus points (despite what it says in their T&Cs). Currently with them as a complaint taking up to 8 weeks. Has anyone else had same problem with refusal to grant bonus? It was a major inconvenience as I had to buy points to make up balance for a booking. Poor show Virgin.

    What do you mean by ‘upgrade’?

    If you use the ‘upgrade my card’ website then you don’t get a bonus.

    If you applied for the Plus card whilst still holding the free card (as a fresh application via the normal application website) then you would get the bonus.

    This was clearly laid out here – https://www.headforpoints.com/2024/09/11/upgrade-your-virgin-atlantic-credit-card-online/ – but you should have received a small bonus based on the spend on the free card before you upgraded it.

    Rob, thanks. If I’m understanding you correctly you’re saying that it depends what website I used. I can’t clearly remember what I used back in October 2024 but will look at them both to see if one looks familiar. When I say upgrade I mean changed card type from Reward which I have had for 8 or more years, and certainly before I had a Virgin Atlantic account, so never knowingly had a bonus of any sort for opening that CC account. I just changed from one free card to one fee paying card with the same card and account number. They took the £160 the month after I requested the change.

    If you changed the card type without opening a new account, then you are not eligible for the SUB.

    Glad i saw this thread as there is an option on the App to “Switch” from my current REWARD card to REWARD+..
    and i was wondering if i would get a sign-up bonus, now i know thanks to HFP !

    Ive spent just over 10K on the REWARD card with about 2 months to go of my card year, IF i switched to REWARd+, would i get a voucher for spending 10K ? Theres no way i would get to 20K on the current card.

    Although, have no status with Virgin, so a voucher isnt a compelling proposal.
