Can they shout at someone about the IT shambles when trying to redeem the upgrade voucher?! Though I suspect they will say that’s an issue for BA …

It is insulting the way this new credit card is managed, insulting to us customers as the communication procedure is impossible to penetrate. I have provided bank statements, proof of income, past tax certificates from HMRC and still they ask for payslips. I am an old person with a personal income, I don’t have a job ! My card was approved with a useless £ 200 credit limit and I have had no luck in trying to talk to anyone who might examine making that more realistic. My assets and income are not small so my credit history & American Express history are crystal-clear, but this is a scam whereby they charge gullible customers £ 20 a month for nothing of any use.
The real disgrace is that a bad product is promoted to those of us who are used to being very satisfied customers of British Airways. This Barclaycard product disgraces those associated with its’ promotion and marketing as well as its management.

Applied for the “Elite” card back at the beginning of April. Computer said no, after saying they needed 5 days to check. Couldn’t be bothered to pursue it, having read about the problems others had experienced. A card arrived in the post today. Bizarre. But having seen that others here have had their initial problems sorted out, might keep it for a while.

Is the Barclaycard eligibility tool a reliable indicator? I know for other cards (Virgin) in the past it’s been useless. I’ve just been rejected by the eligibility checker, so was wondering whether to press ahead with the real application or not. Thanks.

I’m surprised and not surprised by all these problems people are having.

I’m not surprised by the fact That there as issues, remember, this is the same provider that slashed peoples rates drastically a couple of years back in the manner they did.

What is surprising me is how short peoples memory’s are, or blinkered about all the issues, it’s the same company, only difference is the active promotion from hfp of the card.

Before folk take this out of context, not a dig or anything at hfp in any way, just pointing out how short our memories are when it comes to dealing with companies that treated folk poorly in the past, and then have shocked pikachu faces when they are still the same.

I applied for the ‘Plus’ version of the card in the week before the bonus offer expired. The signup page told me that Barclaycard needed to do additional checks. I heard nothing more. Yesterday I received an SMS which said ‘Thanks for applying for a new Barclaycard Avios Plus card. We’re sorry it’s taken us so long to get in touch, there was a technical issue at our end. If you’d still like to continue with the application reply ‘YES’ to this message. If we don’t hear from you in the next 7 day, we’ll cancel the application. Thanks for bearing with us. Your Barclaycard Team.’

I replied ‘YES’ and got a ‘not delivered’ error message. Today I phone the number listed by Siobhan and eventually spoke to an agent. She spoke to someone in the applications team who told her that they don’t send out SMS, that they had no record of my application and I should apply again. I know from Experian that Barclays ran a hard credit search on me, so this is all very puzzling. The agent suggested I raise a complaint to ensure I receive the full entitlement of Avios.

I’ve now reapplied. Can’t wait to see how this one progresses.

I was surprised to receive a thick envelope in the post with a return address of Barclaycard. My 2nd application succeeded. Decent credit limit too. 🙂
