So, with these new rules:
If I enter the Zone before noon at the weekends, park, and leave after 6pm, do I still pay the charge as my car would be parked within the zone?
Congestion zone charges until 10pm doesn’t it?
Yes you have to pay, it’s based on time you enter the zone which is policed by cameras.
And currently operates 7am to 10pm 7 days a week although it is suspended ie free from Xmas Day to New Years Day inclusive.
The reduced hours from 21 Feb 2022 will be back to 7am to 6pm Mon to Fri and 12pm to 6pm Sat, Sun and Bank Holidays.
Fee is still £15 per day.
Ah that edit function didn’t work. I misread your post and I tried to alter my post. I think you may not have to pay assuming you don’t drive the car at all during the 6 hours it operates at the weekends/Bank holidays.
I say this as I am pretty sure it’s policed by cameras on entry and as you’d enter before and leave after the time it comes into operation they’d not be able to charge you. Though they may take the attitude that your car was in the zone during the hours of operation.
Mates I am talking about the new rules that are announced recently. They will come in force in February

Here is the problem. I know it is policed by cameras at entry.
Is it also policed by cameras *within* the zone?
At the weekend, for instance, I enter at 11:55, no problem. And I drive around and leave at 18:05.
Do I have to pay in this case?
Yes it’s policed within the zone too. As long as you literally do not move the car (leave it parked) between those hours in the zone then no charge.
The charge is based upon when you’re driving in the zone not just that your car is parked in it. It’s policed within the zone not just entering / leaving.
Therefore if you enter before it starts and leave after it ends there is no charge payable.
Or get full EV and you’re exempt until 2025.
As long as you enter prior to the start time, don’t move the car and exit after the end time you won’t be charged
And just a reminder, PHEV cars are no longer exempt. It expired near the end of October. I got an email and letter about 6 weeks after informing me. Thankfully, I knew the cut-off date.
Funny enough I had the exact same question to the other half when she was reading it out to me earlier. Get their early, park up, spend the day in London and no congestion charge.
