Hi All members of Head For points, I am asking for your wisdom again. I am thinking of using my Amex points on an Emirates flight to Austria or New Zealand next year. I have done a test run to find the flights I want, with seats and times. I have screenshots if anyone wants to see them. I have picked a day flight and lunchtime flight with a night layover then will stay in an airport hotel in the Emirates hub to get the next flight to my destination and return flight home as I do not like night flights. I have around 125000 Amex points.
I want to maybe save myself £125.00 to £150.00 on a hotel night and upgrade to business for the night flight. Has anyone done this and how easy is it to find flights to upgrade to business class? Also, I have looked online and Emirates does not have much public info how how their points upgrade table works. I have found a few links but not anything that is clear and the BA Avios points tables.
I did post this question before but it was when the web site had issues and I can not find it by post on my account.
I think you might be going about this the wrong way. Others will be better placed than me to provide a fuller comparison here, but Emirates seems to be bad value on that route. One way London-Sydney is 79k miles and £318 in Economy. One way London-Melbourne (I couldn’t get Sydney to work) on Qatar is 90k miles and £372 in business.
I don’t know if you can move miles straight from Amex to Qatar, but if not you can move them via BA.
Agree with above, but to your question about upgrading ability… on the website, under the icon of the seat, “upgrade eligible” means there may be room but not now, “upgrade available” means there is room at time of booking. Sometimes it’s more effective to book PE and upgrade, but YMMV.
Hi All thanks for the comments. I posted my screenshots to give you an idea of how I planned it. If not a detailed written answer. ( I tried to upload a picture it did not work. I have pasted the details below, for your comments. I have thought about Qatar as they’re part of the BA Network now. I have just under 300k in Avios.
