I am trying to book the return for my 241 online and will contact twitter to refund half the Avios. If I just do the straight return GCM to EDI the cost for 2 is £706.24 plus the Avios. If I add a stop in London for one night the cost goes to £758.24. Is this correct? Does it cost more to add a stopover or should I phone BA?
Is the stopover more than 24 hours? Also, have you clicked through to the payment page as sometimes the price adjusts itself? I’ve got a similar trip in June (MAN-LHR-GCM with overnight at LHR) but didn’t notice a price difference.
Because the price difference is pretty much £50 I’m wondering if it’s to do with the domestic connection as that’s what you’d get charged for it, but it should apply whichever way you book it.
Where are you planning to stay? We’re starting to fancy a change from our usual place and wondering if VRBO etc are reliable!
Is this more than 24 hours between landing from GCM and departing for EDI?
If so UK APD kicks in for the LHR- EDI leg
2 x £26 accounts for the difference
That’s what I was thinking @ChrisC. GCM-LHR lands about 11 am, so a next day connection to EDI may well be more than 24 hours later. I don’t know how many LHR-EDI flights there are per day.

yes more than 24 hours, was looking at the 8pm flight the next day…..that explains it, thanks guys
I have a bunch of IHG points to burn so I am booking the Kimpton on a daily basis lol. I am hoping the 70k per night will drop closer to the time, has been about 58k for my dates this year…

It’s too much of a coincidence to be anything else like an additional airport fee (though it could be)
It would be verified by checking the detailed fare breakdowns and comparing the two.
2 x £26 APD makes sense as its over 24 hrs, thanks

We’ve got 3 nights at the Kimpton at the end of our trip, I suspect it only dropped below 70k because the island was pretty much closed to tourists until very recently so get it locked in! I am actually expecting it to rise when they cotton on to “dynamic pricing” – I’m just waiting for Easter next year to open up and cash prices 2 weeks before are over £1200 pn! Some HIs are over 70k since silly season kicked in at IHG.
Actually that makes sense…..I have 3 nights booked so far, another 4 to go over the next 4 days. Just hoping 7 nights isn’t a bit too long and we will be bored……

If you haven’t been before, I can recommend Legendz down the road for breakfast, which will be about 1/3 of the Kimpton price. Coconut Joe’s is even cheaper but you’d need a car (though that is actually a great option as driving is easy and on the left!)
You won’t be bored, it’s gorgeous. What do you like doing on holiday?
I prefer city breaks – that’s why we’re doing Rome & Naples in summer 🙂 This trip is for OH 50th birthday and he prefers to chill on the beach….

Well the stretch of beach at the Kimpton is one of the best 😀. There’s not much to compare with a city break (apart from a limited amount of duty free shopping) but there’s water sports galore – Red Sail Sports does catamaran trips from the Kimpton, including a very nice sunset sail. There are a few historic sites to visit, plus the Botanic Gardens where you can see the unique Cayman Blue Iguana – these are all much easier if you rent a car as taxis are extortionate. There’s also plenty of high-end dining and a small museum and art gallery in the general Georgetown area. Camana Bay about 10 mins drive from the Kimpton is a nice complex of boutiques, restaurants – and a cinema if you get really bored!
It’s actually much more sports cars and yachts-type sophistication than laid-back boho island so probably more suited to city lovers than some other islands.Big tip – look at the Cruise TT website to check when the cruise ships are in dock because many of the (thousands of) passengers will come to the beach for the day, especially at the time of year you’re going. This is a good time to visit the quieter parts of the island! Pre-covid they were not allowed to visit Fri/Sat/Sun which is when we do any activities on and around Seven Mile Beach.
Oh and pace yourself on the flight – it’s 12 hours because of the stop in NAS!

Thank you so much for all the tips. Car hire def sounds like a good option for us. I’ll certainly look at the cruise timetable and work around that too. Unfortunately I’m not a good traveller so I’ll probably eat very little & no alcohol 🙁
