Forums Frequent flyer programs Virgin Flying Club Cost of Delta redemptions using Virgin Points

I haven’t used points on DL before, but I am getting quoted 18.5k VS points plus $86 for PVR-ATL, on the Flying Club website. This seems like a lot of points given I can then get from ATL-MAN in PE for 22.5k plus surcharges. Is this just normal for DL? Cash prices are pretty high on that route though as well.

Also, on the VFC site, I can get redemption quotes, but not cash, is this also normal? Cash price was quoted from SkyScanner.

Yes that’s expected. Unless it’s a codeshare VS and DL won’t be able to sell it for cash. I think you’re too early. DL have only released redemtions up until 5th Dec. 27k DL miles +$84 is the lowest on that route, so poor value. However depends on the day. Tues-Fri flights are lowest prices

Thanks, we’ll be flying out of PVR around Dec 15th so am trying to get an idea of whether it’s a good use of VS points. The other option is United or JetBlue to NYC but those would be cash only. I was surprised there’s no direct PVR-MIA flight.

I’ve rarely found redemptions on DL flights to be good value when using my VS miles, versus my DL miles or paying cash. Unless you need the TPs, I’d just suggest taking the best cash fare you can find (plus a chance to try another airline!).

Thanks – cash fares seem to be around £300 which does make points decent value. I don’t know if this is because DL is just expensive, I’ve noticed some of their other fares in that region are always higher than competitors as well.

You might be able to use Avios on Jetblue
