When I recently got the TP for silver in 2021 (my BAEC year follows the normal calendar) my status was set until Jan 2024.
I get BA wants us to remain loyal but what incentive do I now have to flight BA in 2022? Instead I should be trying to use other airlines and then come back to BA in 2023 to extend my status.
Am I missing something? Obviously having 24 months of upper status is better than 12 but does that mean that if I get 450 TP in 2022 my account will be silver until 2025? (And hence I should keep using One World this year)
Depends on your flying pattern of course – you’d still fly BA in Europe for the lounge etc via your status. If you’re flying Business long haul then, yes, you can go elsewhere – but if you fly business you don’t really need status anyway as you get most of the benefits.
The real beneficiaries of BA status are those who fly long haul Business and short haul Economy, as they get the benefits on the latter. If you fly long haul Economy then you’ll struggle to earn status anyway.
