I’ve had Amex cards for a number of years now, and over time have built up a large credit limit.
I’d like to cancel my Amex cards though so that I can be eligible for sign up bonuses in 24 months time.
However ideally I’d like to keep my credit limit, which is great for my credit score.
Is there an Amex card that wouldn’t prevent me from getting sign up bonuses in 24 months time, and to which I can transfer my credit limit?
Your “credit score” is entirely fictional.
That aside, even if you did transfer your credit limit/s to another single Amex card – most of the cards have a maximum limit so you may only be able to transfer over a small portion of it and lose the rest.
I suppose…
But is there some niche Amex card that doesn’t count towards eroding any of the 24 months needed before applying for a card to be eligible for sign up bonuses? As in, if I hold that card – and that card alone – I could apply for any other Amex card in 24 months time and be eligible for its sign up bonus?
No, there is no such unicorn. Your only option is to hold a non Membership reward and non Avios card, like the Nectar Amex, that way at least you can start the clock on the Platinum MR and BAPP.
Usual caveats of nobody has any idea what the rules will be in 24 months, whether you will be accepted etc etc.
I didn’t know that…interesting. So you can hold just the Nectar Amex for 24 months and then possibly qualify for an MR card bonus again, based on current qualification rules? Does that go for the Amazon Amex’s too?
Only works for the Platinum MR card (not the Gold) and the BAPP (not the free BA), those two (currently) have different qualification rules, in that to qualify for the SUB you can’t have held a MR or Avios earning card respectively for 24 months. So yes, you can happily hold any of the other Amex’s: cashback, Nectar, Marriott, Vitality; without impacting SUB eligibility on the above two.
The Amazon card is a business card? In which case totally irrelevant to the earning of subs on a personal card.
