Forums Hotel loyalty schemes IHG One Rewards Crown Plaza Edinburgh

What’s the latest on the CP Edinburgh? An article back in December said it was becoming voco “early 2022” – I’m looking to book in April and it’s still listed as CP on the IHG website. Will I find it closed and being refurbished when I turn up? Perhaps I should look for another property.

I saw this the other day, still on IHG as a Crowne Plaza.
The hotel is owned by Cairn Group, but their website has nothing updated at present re any opening etc. However they tweeted today about wishing people happy Valentine’s Day, referencing Edinburgh and Crowne Plaza Hotels. So it may be remaining a CP, but who knows. The Indigo York Place is nearby and nice, but there are new tram works starting outside shortly -do they ever end in Edinburgh – so beware. My go to for IHG is still the Kimpton if that’s in your price/points range.
    Hope this helps.

The hotel page has this to say:

Crowne Plaza Edinburgh – Royal Terrace will be undergoing refurbishments. We want to thank you for your understanding and patience. Additionally, we want to apologise for any inconvenience that might be caused. Thank you.

Our new gym facilities will open as we rebrand the hotel to voco™ end of Quarter 1 2022.

It suggests the refurb is ongoing and targeting maybe April for the rebrand?

Opinions please. I’m in Edinburgh at end of April for a stag do. Only going 1 night so I’m sorting my own accommodation.

I’ve booked the Crown Plaza (30k points), Indigo York Place (29k points) and the HIX Royal Mile (25k points). As locations all similar for my needs, either one stand out for a Spire Member?

At moment I’m drawn to HIE as cheapest and will get free breakfast, however would get nicer room at other options.

I’m waiting to see if the March IHG rewards rebrand will give free breakie at CP or Indigo.

Would normally stay Kimpton, but not worth it for a shower and few hours drunken kip.

CP Edinburgh was bought by Castleforge last year and Axiom will be managing it. They also acquired Hilton Cardiff and BW Edinburgh Bruntsfield last year.

HIX is in the Cowgate, one block off the Royal Mile. It’s a popular hotel and is a short walk from the Grassmarket and Cowgate pubs and clubs regularly frequented by Stag do’s. So I would probably stick there. The Indigo York Place is nice but it looks like the tram stop is getting moved from outside to 100m down the road so there could be disruption/noise there. Re the CP, don’t know if it’ll be open and under what name?
    Enjoy your time in Edinburgh.

Agree on HIX as the best option. It’s on the right side of town for a stag-doo being in the Old Town. The other options are in the New Town which is a good 15/20 minute walk away from the action including some steep hills/stairs.

Of course if the stag is going to be more sophisticated then the New Town location may be better.

    No sophistication here mate!!

    Thanks for the input.

Looking like cheap and cheerful will win the day.
