Anyone stayed here recently and have any comments?
Basically wanting to make sure it isn’t awful, as there aren’t many other options around Bham for the date I require.
Not recently but 2018ish I stayed. It was poor. They couldn’t link (2 staff members, different days) a points stay with 2 separate free night certs and each morning the cleaner thought we were checking out, knocking about 7:30am one day to check.
The boiler stopped working a different morning. I rang reception, they didn’t have the courtesy to tell me when it came back on.
Some cleaning of the paving near the hotel was done at 3am one night. It was so loud it woke me up. Reception couldn’t be bothered to even have a word with the workmen.
The bed was comfortable, but every movement by one occupant was felt by the other. If one turned over the other was bounced. I ended up having a rollaway bed put in place to get a better sleep!
No service recovery was attempted by the staff.
Didn’t try the food.
The nearby Hilton Metropole was much better. A bit tired but decent breakfast and comfortable bed. Upgraded to executive room as gold on a points stay. The lounge food offering wasn’t great, the drinks passable.

I don’t understand why this happens, but only when you try to link two bookings… it wasn’t at this hotel, but twice at two hotels the cleaner took away all my stuff while I was at breakfast. They said they weren’t aware of the second booking, but check out time wasn’t 8am!!

Oh, doesn’t seem very positive at all. I indeed have 2 free night certs to use up, and as cash prices were over £300/night, thought it would be good use. Now I’ll have to consider staying further out (Wolverhampton?Worcester?) and getting in by train for the weekend.
As it’s to use up free night vouchers, and to save a journey in traffic, I’d consider staying there, but be aware of the potential limitations, that’s all.
Is the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport a possibility?

All full, a little thing called the commonwealth games is happening then…
Even the travelodge is £400 for 2 nights…
