I’m currently staying at the Crowne Plaza in Plymouth, it’s my first IHG stay since the new reward program benefits began. I was surprised to discover that breakfast is only served until 9:30am. This seems very early for a Crowne Plaza! I’m wondering if the hotel has reduced the hours they serve breakfast, in an attempt to reduce costs now that breakfast is free for diamond members?!
Finally my advice for anyone thinking of staying at this hotel is AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

For midweek, 9:30 doesn’t seem too bad. Do they serve breakfast later at weekends?
Besides the breakfast times, what other problems have you faced?

I’m not sure about the weekends. I’ll find out on Saturday.
The main problem is that the hotel is undergoing very noisy renovation! Constant extremely loud drilling and banging which starts at 10am. There should be a notice on the hotel website warning guests about this! But the only ‘important announcement’ on their website, tells you that “Due to a Running Festival, Citadel Road will be closed on Sunday 19th June”.
The hotel is clearly in dire need of the renovation, I believe one of the things they are doing is replacing all the windows. The windows in my room are very old and have holes in the aluminum frame which drafts blow through and also mean they’re not sound proof in the slightest.
There’s many other small issues with the hotel that all add up as well. For instance only 2 of the 3 lifts are working and there’s no service lift for the staff, so wait times for the lift run into several minutes often. Oh and several of the buttons in the lift are faulty and don’t light up when pressed, so guests are constantly repressing the buttons unsure if the lift will stop at their floor. The button to call the lift on the ground floor is also faulty, so guests have no idea if the lift is coming or not and stand there repeatedly pressing the button
Seems a bit drastic to avoid a hotel just because breakfast ends at 9.30!
Oh, yeah the unexpected and noisy renovations sound really unpleasant. At first I thought you were avoiding the hotel purely on the grounds of the 9:30 end to breakfast, which seemed a bit of an overreaction. Hopefully once the renovations are complete it’ll be worth visiting again. Seems unfair to not notify guests in advance through a notice on the website.
How have management responded to your complaints?
Complain to IHG afterwards.
You’ll likely be offered 10k points.
Reject it and you’ll be offered 20k most probably.
9:30am end to breakfast doesn’t seem unreasonable to me.
Hilton Northampton breakfast times are 0730-0900. But they took pity on me and gave me what I would have taken from the buffet as they hadn’t dumped it all yet… (note for any stalkers – yes I got up at my usual time of 0430, had my own breakfast then went out for my meeting, but assumed I could get back and have “lunch” at 0930 before checking out).
So yes the start time is more important to me but I think the majority of hotels I’ve stayed in at the level of CPs have breakfast from 0630-0930 or 0700-1000, and either extended an hour or shifted an hour on weekends +/- bank holidays.
I stayed at CP Plymouth in 2017 as Spire, wasn’t too impressed (which began when I saw the neon lights saying CRO PLAZA as I walked from the station). They did give me lounge access and the evening stuff was not too bad, no restaurant breakfast but had some pastries and cereal in the lounge.
