it could be your ISA has topped up with the need for fronted. There is at least one company out there where top-ups to ISA/Savings work without having fronted enabled. 🙂

Is it on a card you can still apply for or is it off the market now? All my current ones don’t work with fronted off

It’s Curve that decides what’s Fronted or not, not the card.

in that case I don’t have one that curve allows to go through without fronted. Wish I did though!

Do you find the benefits of metal outweigh the charges?

Yes. Even capped at £10k a month, the rewards that can be earned from Curve Fronted make the fee worth paying.

Oh dear, I wasnt aware of the £10k rule! I’ve already put £10k into an ISA in August, plus will have Amex to pay off soon, is there any way to know which of these transactions have eaten into my 10k allowance, or any way to track the fronted spend (assuming like me you just leave it switched on)

No, there is no way to track it unfortunately. Maybe contact Curve and see, but no trackable in the app. Surprised the app doesnt show it really, as they clearly track it at the back-end. I think they are busy bloating the app rather than put useful things into it.

Well what about this. How long does it take after a transaction over the 10k, for the 1.5% charge to hit your account? If it’s immediate, or a day or so, given I know I have already put £10k through my ISA, I could pay just £10 or £20 off my Amex bill now and see if it triggers?

I found myself asking the same question recently as I went over £10k spend and wasn’t charged anything. After £11k the fee appeared as part of the overall transaction. If you’ve been charged it, you’ll know about it immediately.

I could be wrong but I think it’s the savings account which is allowing the top up rather than the credit card being used.

You are both wrong. It’s Curve that decides what’s Fronted and what is not.

Unlike the OP, my top-ups to savings work with HSBC world elite, but don’t work with Lloyds cashback card. This is with fronted being OFF on both. However, I don’t have NS&I, I’m using another swings provider.

These are the ones i am trying to find as will happily upgrade my curve and pay the fees if I can find the right spending goals

Curve will decide based on the MCC? I am guessing that some savings/ISA institutions have the wrong MCC in place and so it bypasses fronted regardless of the underlying credit card.

It’s Fronted if the merchant’s category code is MCC 6012 or 9399 and Curve think the underlying card is a credit card.

SO, after having put £10k Curve spend towards my ISA already this month, I tested a £100 payment yesterday to my Amex. Went from pending to cleared after about 20 minutes, no 1.5% fee, go figure…
