Little surprised that curve were able to sneak through a clearly negative fair use policy for curve cash with no notice.
A limit of £20 per merchant isn’t that much, not saying it happens every month but I often spend £2k at a single merchant through normal spending, at the likes of marriot and TfL.
Anyway. Highlighting for anyone who has missed it this! Not a dealbreaker here, yet, but value is dwindling.
Pretty sure the actual T&C change the naming wasn’t the fair use on cashback was already there?

@dshunter – the cashback already had a fair use policy and that has now been set at £20 per retailer and £50 total per month which seems pretty generous vs say Chase that limits cashback to £15/month in total. You can also still earn additional cashback on FX transactions.
I had missed this because the email only mentioned “We’ve made reasonable adjustments to our Fair Use Policy to ensure we can protect against fraud and abuse”
Not sure that introducing fair use limits well under reasonable use cases counts as “As the changes put in place are for clarification or in your favour”!@Matt – if you don’t think that Curve is entitled to make these changes without notice on the basis given, you can challenge them and seek compensation. Curve’s answer will probably be that it has clarified what ‘fair use’ means, almost certainly in response to those who don’t understand the concept of ‘fair use’. Remember the days when ‘fronted’ was only subject to ‘fair use’? A few unfair (ab)users also killed that for the fair using majority.

Nope but was it capped at £50 for the month?
How do you spend more £2k a month on TFL?? I can only assume you are buying an annual pass, because the max weekly cap is £78 a person for zone 1-6.
If you are not using an annual pass, I would suggest you top up an oyster card on months where you spend <2k for when you do go above.
Have they also changed the refund rules on Curve Fronted if you use Go Back in Time to switch to a debit card? Google snippet says fees refunded, updated policy dated 24th October says it wont be. I’ve asked anyway

I’m sure they will, and as I don’t think the rule change will affect me I can’t summon the effort to complain, or see any compensation I could claim.
It is also a reasonable change for Curve to decide to make, and may be necessary becuase of people taking advantage of the existing rules.
That doesn’t change the fact that this is clearly not a beneficial change for customers, and for Curve to pretend it is, and for you to suggest they are right, is clearly incorrect.

Not relevant to this, but it’s amazing what petty scams/frauds people get up to. Our local Waitrose parking costs 50p which is refunded if you spend £5 in the shop. It seems a number of people divided up their shopping at the self checkout and gave themselves a 10% discount costing the shop £000’s so pressing ‘parking’ now requires staff intervention.

I have a suspicion that I know having accidentally found a churning opportunity with it – though one that requires far too much time to be worth while to me, I’m sure someone else has found it with more time.
But what frustrates me my £2k+ annual travel card, my 2k+ marriot stay, and my £2k+ amazon splurge is not fraud/abuse, and I should be given 30 days to expedite any spending and break out of my subscription should I want to. It’s not my fault curve decided to offer a benefit that they can’t afford.
