Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club CV voucher and linking two bookings together

  • 27 posts

    Hi All
I made a one way booking online for 2 people using my CV. When the return flights were available, I went online again and purchased them with Avios with a view to calling up and getting the tickets linked and half the Avios refunded.

Apparently, as I used two different credit cards to pay the taxes, they cannot refund half the Avios as the system wouldn’t know where to apply the refund. Supposedly, the only way around it is to cancel the flight I’d booked from my return, hope it goes back to the Avios pot and then rebook it using the same card that I used for the outbound so then they could link and refund half the Avios.

The guy sounded pretty convincing but I’m still not 100% as it’s not a cash refund I’m after, it’s just Avios – any ideas?

It’s definitely not for the reason you were given. Historically BA required you to pay with a specific Amex – although in practice you didn’t need to, it did mean that if you used 2 different ones, it was a bit of a red flag to BA that one of them wasn’t the “right” one.

I don’t know if this is strictly the case now that you can officially use any Amex to pay the taxes, but of course you have no choice but to ask BA to do this, and you’re reliant on their goodwill.

You can HUACA and hope the next agent doesn’t notice which cards you used, but otherwise you would need to cancel and re-book (which will cost you £70 as well, unless you’re still within 24 hours from booking).

Don’t ask for anything to be “linked”, just for your 50% avios back. They can’t link or join the 2 bookings and sometimes this causes extra confusion and a refusal to co-operate altogether!
