Doing a BA day trip to Dublin tomorrow to get my number of flights required for silver status (Already have the reduced tier points needed)
Only have two hours in Dublin airport before getting the flight back to LHR. Will I need to clear passport control and security to go back into departures or can I somehow just get to hang around gate, lounge or duty free shop and board flight back?
Arrivals and departures are segregated at DUB. I don’t think there’s an airside connections pathway in T1; so I expect you will have to clear passport/customs/baggage hall and then re-enter. But keep an eye out for airside connections pathway and try that if you can.
If you don’t have priority security in DUB T1 then get straight there ASAP as it will be bedlam on Saturday with many rebooked FR passengers from Friday’s weather chaos at DUB also travelling.
Should smack your legs for only asking this now!
There is a connections route but DUB is pretty clear it’s not for passengers who are self connecting on separate tickets and they may not regard a back to back as a connection.
Otherwise yes you’ll clear passport control – there are e-gates. Then follow the signs through baggage reclaim area then up one level to departures.
Assuming you have your BP already you can skip the BA desks and head to the security lane. Lots of staff to direct you to the correct lanes for normal and priority lanes. They were pretty efficient when I went through in the summer
Once through security you’re in main departures.
If you have access to the DAA lounge it’s up one level with access sort of between the exits of priority and normal security.
If not then browse the duty free shops (they have a good selection of Irish gins) or grab a coffee etc
There can be some long walks at DUB to some of the gate areas so take that into account.
Thank you for your help flight out was delayed and left me with one hour 20 on arrival. Airside connections closes at 2pm so I just missed that and had to do passport control & security. Passport control very quick 3 mins and security about 15 minutes now sitting at gate waiting to board. Datapoint terminal 5 security crazy they were calling you out of queue if your flight was an hour probably took about 50 minutes to get through but manned really well.
