Flying LHR to DBX in August for a family (4) holiday. Flight and car booking with BA holidays on double tier point offer hotel booked separately as cheaper.

We were getting the overnight flight to DBX leaving LHR at 9.15 pm getting into DBX 7.30 am next morning. This saved us a nights accommodation.

Flight has been cancelled so we’ve been moved to earlier flight leaving 12.50pm from LHR and getting to DBX a day earlier than planned.

Bit of a pain as we now need to changed our hotel booking and hope we can get an extra night. Obviously have to pay for this extra night.

As it’s more than 14 days prior to flight any chance of compensation from BA? There’s not really a better flight with BA as I’d have to change hotel booking if I can’t get the flight I’d booked on.

    Thanks in advance

You won’t get compo but BA may owe you duty of care and reimburse you for the extra night. Check what applies for holidays though, rather than flight-only bookings. They usually say £200 (I can’t remember if that’s pp or per room) so you might want to check what they’ll reimburse compared with how much your current accommodation costs if you’re staying somewhere expensive.

Thanks Northern Lass. I doubt I’ll get away with an extra night at our hotel but if they’d cover a night for us in the airport hotel that would ease the pain.

Thought I was being clever with the timings but has kind of back fired!

I think this summer the best we can all hope for is to actually get to our destinations, maybe even with our luggage if the gods are really smiling on us 😂

Just to follow up on this, should I discuss “duty of care” expenses with BA before I go or just book a hotel and send them the receipts when I get back?

Do you know if it is an “all or nothing” policy i.e. can I book an extra night at our fairly expensive hotel and get some of that back (i.e. equivalent to cost of an average hotel night for 4) or should I book at an average hotel in the expectation I can claim it all back?

    Thanks
