Forums Payment cards American Express Deliveroo and Amex credit

    Hi, newbie here
Deliveroo credit seems worthless when you factor in the price hike of the goods plus charges? been with Amex since 83 and seriously thinking going back to the original green charge card….transferring out reward once and for all!

    Welcome!

If you don’t see the value in using Deliveroo then you won’t use it, full stop. Go and collect your takeaway yourself (or cook your own meal and save even more). If you do use it, you’re saving £5.

Same with getting groceries delivered via the app.

We have used it a couple of times for emergency grocery deliveries when we couldn’t be bothered to walk down to Little Waitrose (a whole 5 minutes away!). The £5 saving takes it down to the Waitrose price if I walked around in person.

Note that it works fine on Deliveroo pick-ups, where you order groceries in the app and pop in to collect them yourself, hence no delivery fee and £5 of free food.

Note that if you have Amazon Prime you get free elite status with Deliveroo which wipes out some of the fees.

Just to clarify a bottle of Hereford red cost £7.50 at the local coop express…deliveroo = £10.15 + 0.99 delivery fee and £2.13 service fee ……and yeah don’t go on….its not just about convenience…

Sounds about right. The £5 credit means you can stay on your sofa because getting up only saves you 75p.

But if the Co-Op is in Deliveroo Pick-Up then alternatively the wine will only cost you £5.15 when you walk around to get it.

Also depends if the Co-Op is walkable or you’re causing expense and depreciation to your car too ….

Confession – my wife once had a bizarre late night craving for After Eight mints so I had a single box delivered. Even with the £5 credit it was a decent slug more than heading out into the wild streets of Kensington, but there was huge novelty value.

As with many things, it depends what you do with it. I pay for my son to have a Deliveroo ordered Lebanese mezze lunch selection twice a month for £5.35 when he’s WFH. He has to go and collect it, but is pleased to stretch his legs for the 15 mins return trip. He’s happy and it goes a long way towards justifying the Gold fee.

Mine has the same date which doesn’t correlate to my anniversary date which is late December. HN credits for Plat are open ended, dining credits end 31/12/24. They have a lot of basic stuff to sort out.

Pretty sure it was October back in 2022 or something as well before it got extended quietly.

You can fairly easily use the Deliveroo credit on collection orders (for which Deliveroo charge no service fee or delivery ofc!) so whenever I’ve been in town I’ve just been collecting a bubble tea for £5.10 twice a month.
