Tried to get a retention offer for the first time today – AMEX Marriott. Nothing offered – apparently, there are no retention offers available for this card (thought that might be the case, but figured it was worth a try) 🫠.
I’ve been an AMEX cardholder for 7 years (Marriott as primary for 4 years now) and am still a few years shy of turning 30. Prior to 2020, the Amex Gold was my primary card.
Spending over the last 4 years: ~£120K (AMEX Marriott) + ~5K (AMEX Blue)
FX fees in that time: just under £1K
I’ve been Marriott Platinum or Titanium since 2019, but honestly feeling like the value of the card is diminishing. 50% of my spending has gone through my Citi card over the past 1.5 years, and now I’m just tempted to cancel the Marriott card altogether. I thought they might at least write off the annual fee for this year, but no luck.
Has anyone ever received a retention offer for this card? Or is it just a lost cause?
Do you stay at UK Marriotts a lot? Isn’t it worth it just for the 3x points?
No retention offers on this card.
Not really, mostly around Europe + Middle East, all personal stays … I don’t feel like the higher earning rate is offsetting the annual fee + FX charges
