Ah, I see – I must have misread/misunderstood something you said then. I agree, I wouldn’t want to close a card with a negative reward balance in case it caused problems further down the line.
For what it’s worth, my prediction is that they’ll decide it isn’t worth their while doing anything and they’ll end up just closing your “complaint” with no action. But we’ll see 🙂
