Forums Payment cards Barclaycard Avios Do Barclays clawback voucher?

  • 42 posts

Unplanned I find myself £2.5k short of triggering the BA upgrade voucher with 5 days to go.

I can easily cover that with hotel spend but I would rather put that on the AMEX Bonvoy.

This leaves me with two questions:

    1) Does Barclays clawback the voucher ( I know the avios go -ve) if I charge, trigger vocuher, then refund next week what happens?
    2) Assume BA flex ticket is still the best way to spend then refund for such amounts

    thanks

That’s not how it works with Amex.

How it works with Amex (in your example) is that the refund would be in your NEXT card year, so the amount of spend you need for your next voucher is £17,500 and not £15,000.

If Barclays works the same way, you’d need £12,500 to trigger your next voucher.

    Zero risk of clawback.

Unless of course you cancel your Amex card and take out a new one (different type, partner’s name) for the following year…
