Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Do you earn Avios and tier points with Jetstar?

I’m in Aus in a couple of weeks and need to take some internal flights. Jetstar is cheaper than Quantas but I’m trying to retain gold and all the extra tier points help. However Jetstar is owned by quanta’s and uses the quanta’s loyalty scheme, so can I credit flights with Jetstar to BAEC and earn points?

Second try, this time with my glasses on

Foundthis online: “Flights booked under the Qantas code (QF) that are operated by a non-oneworld airline will earn Avios and Tier Points unless operated by Jetstar (except if it’s in L class).”

Short answer, no. See it as a bit like the relationship between Vueling and BA. I.e. they (Qantas and Jetstar) have code sharing, but you cannot collect tier points and avios.

Are you travelling with luggage? We actually found the prices between Qantas and Jetstar to be comparable, once you add on luggage to a Jetstar ticket price. Being Gold, you get all the additions with Qantas, but you won’t with Jetstar.

Over Christmas we flew 5 internal flights in Australia – 4 with Qantas 1 with Jetstar, and we did regret not flying Qantas on that particular Jetstar flight.

As a data point, the tier points and avios credited are pretty stingy with Qantas. We flew Cairns to Queenstown via Brisbane, and got 5 tier points per flight and a handful of avios. I am not complaining, but something to bear in mind in trying to yield maximum points.

Final point to note, check availability of possible avios redemptions. We got business class redemptions very last minute on a Qantas flight from Sydney to Cairns and the seat (for the 3 hour flight) was great – lie flat, and great food and beverages.
