Discuss today's stories:
I applied and got the reward Gold credit card 3-4 weeks ago. I will hit the SUB spending of £3000 next week.
May I know – first – when will the SUB land on my account?
Second – do you think I can upgrade to platinum afterwards? I will have around £2000-2500 big spending in August so would easily hit the £6000 in the next 3 months. It seems like those eligible will receive offer email from Amex. Just wonder if I will have the same later?
It hits as soon as the base points post for hitting the spend that takes you to £3k
I don’t see why not if the offer is still running. No exclusion on time you’ve had the card. I’ve seen people use the link without getting an email.
You don’t need to receive any email from Amex in order to apply for the Gold to Plat upgrade offer. However, some have reported getting rejected for no especially apparent reason and while none is explicitly specified, it does appear that there may be a minimum holding period before it works. It’s also not a back to to avoiding the minimum income requirement for Plat.
Thanks for the reply! Do you think I can check with the chat agent just to confirm my eligibility. I do worry about not holding the gold long enough to do this…
If you’re accepted you’re eligible. JDB is simply saying you may not be accepted but let’s be honest there’s nothing to lose.
Chat agents are useless and last thing you want is them saying you’re not eligible because then you have no leg to stand on if something happens.
Bank your 30k and the bonus for adding a supp card holder then apply online.

You can call but eligibility is a moveable feast and the agent will not know the facts – that’s way outside their ken. You also won’t get any sort of ‘pre-approval’ – you will either be eligible/Amex will permit the upgrade at that moment or not. That won’t really tell you what might happen next week. If you are rejected, they will likely tell you to try again in the future without any timeframe. As at @TGLoyalty says, there’s nothing to be lost trying, but Amex doesn’t take advance reservations as it were.
Thanks both! Super helpful! 🙂 and yes the reminder of supp card holder bonus!
Here’s the link to do it. I *believe* if you’re not eligible it will tell you quite early on once you‘ve started.

It does indeed tell you quickly.
I just used the link and got accepted for the platinum upgrade. A few months ago I used the link and it quickly said ‘No’ with a screen saying I do not have any eligible cards as soon as you are signed in.
