Planning a family holiday later in the year to distant shores. My 2 adult children are coming with us and I booked Avios seats on QR some time ago. Now my daughter cannot fly that night and I was going to book 2 one way Y fares on SQ. Today I called BA gold line to cancel the outbound QR flights.
You cannot do this on line.
The agents were very nice but the process they need to follow is drawn out, cumbersome and hopelessly inaccurate. They must recalculate the taxes and fees and when they did so they both got numbers that were more than double the online prices shown on BA.com web site.
So it off to ticketing and no doubt a delay till someone can get the slide rule to work, find batteries for the calculator and then find someone who can use it.
No absolutely nothing works. The share price is bombing, no one can buy any tickets, none of the planes can take off – which is just as well as there aren’t any passengers in the first place.
Daft subject lines don’t achieve anything.
The Daily Telegraph as been properly bigging them up recently! Apparently they are the key to our trade deal with the US, or something. This stuff does make me glaze over a bit, however so I have no idea of the details …
This is the system working properly.
Changing a ticket in this way isn’t as simple as you think it is.
It’s not just a case of cancelling one leg. The rest of the remnants of the ticket need to be repriced properly and then the refund properly calculated.
I don’t think BA is an outlier in this.
@Paul – I’m all for criticising organisations when they really do behave badly/incompetently, it’s very unfair to criticise BA for operating within global airline ticketing rules. As @BAFIHGS says, it simply isn’t as simple as you would like it to be to amend and cancel part of your booking. As an experienced traveller, I’m sure that in reality you know this!

You miss the point…. Their staff then get taxes and fees that are double what they are on their web site and they are unable to explain why. I am very well aware of the modern day complexity of airline ticketing and sat patiently waiting for them to come up with the fees. It took me around 30 seconds to calculate things using a pen and paper.

Again the change was not the real issue though it is cumbersome the issue was the fee and taxes quoted as double what they should have been of the remaining flight. Not once but twice by two different staff. The staff are as much the victims as the customers.
