Forums Payment cards American Express Does upgrading Amex BA to BAPP invoke credit score hit?

  • 52 posts

I have the black BAPP card at the moment and have triggered my 2-4-1. however I want to downgrade to blue, until my collection year starts again, then upgrade to the black card.

I assume upgrading to the black card leaves a ‘mark’ on credit scores?

No. Your credit score isn’t a real thing seen be lenders etc.

Sometimes Amex will carry out a full credit check (the ‘mark’ to which I think you are referring) but sometimes they don’t; if it’s very important to you that they shouldn’t, don’t do it.

As a generality, Amex is carrying out greater checks/reviews than hitherto and the upgrade from free to paid BA Amex cards involves more checks than previously because of the fairly recently introduced minimum income requirement. In the new world, I wouldn’t any longer expect to be able to glide back and forth from free to paid and vv on a regular basis and the current amnesty on cessation of pro-rata refunds won’t last forever.
