Any suggestions for a Doha beach hotel suitable for kids?
Planning on 3-4 days sightseeing and beach.
Ideally not a big hotel (300+ rooms) unless it’s high recommended.
I’ve followed the comments here and sounds like there isn’t a standout location?
Thanks
Sheraton.
10 minutes from airport, beautiful grounds and best crescent shaped private beach in Doha.
Large circular pool, sectioned off for kids, and one of those huge inflatable climbing/assault course things anchored off the beach for kids and very fit adults! They have jet skis etc for hire as well but not a lot more for children that I’ve noticed.
Forget about the sightseeing, there isn’t any, just enjoy doing nothing at the hotel.
Quirky rooms, Excellent breakfast.100% in agreement re @bungalow in terms of Sheraton. Great hotel. Just be aware you need to pay for plastic inflatable thingy.
95% agree re nothing to do. Pearl-quarter is worth a stroll around – taxi there, very cheap. Also the National Museum is worth a look. Souk, not.
Thanks. Was thinking similar – just a few short outings – pearl, museum. Katara cultural village. Etc.

Enjoy. Despite the ‘nothing to do’ my kids loved it. A few days of relaxation. Been three times, twice Sheraton, one IC (good if Diamond, but I’d still do Sheraton even if I had no status there). Always on longer routings (Australia).

Souk is good for buying gold though! Although you will pay the going rate for the gold, you don’t pay for the workmanship, so it’s very good for simple things like gold chains which are often half the price of what you will pay in the UK or Italy (where a lot of it is made).
Thats very interesting, I didn’t know that.
Do you know would the same reasoning work for the Gold Souk in Deira (Dubai Creek)?Thats very interesting, I didn’t know that.
Do you know would the same reasoning work for the Gold Souk in Deira?Yes, fairly much any gold souk operates on the basis of the weight of the item x the daily price (that you can easily check online). Occasionally, you might get a markup of maybe 3% but it’s all very transparent. A lot of the jewellery isn’t necessarily to western tastes but it’s great for straightforward things like chains. Costly though if you are then expected to buy the nice pendant to hang on it!
@JDB, do you pay the import taxes? Or hide it somewhere they typically don’t look? 😉

I assume you are referring to the place I get my posts from?
You have an allowance of £390 although that doesn’t get you very far, but in my experience if you declare say £1000/£1500 (which means potentially paying VAT on the full amount, not deducting the £390) it’s far too much hassle for them to complete the paperwork so they will say it’s fine. Even if you paid the VAT, you will have saved a large sum.
Re Sheraton Doha, the rooms on the website always look spartan and old fashioned to me. Give me 1991 vibes. Has it been refurbed?

I had a look after reading the comments up-thread and got the same old-fashioned vibe from the rooms.
Rooms are still “old fashioned”, think lots of red carpets and matt gold drawer and shower handles – this isn’t one of the new and modern Doha hotels.
However…
The hotel has the pick of Doha locations, short taxi from the airport, stroll into downtown, huge gardens, and a totally private beach with city and gulf views! The rooms (besides being a little dated) are quirky, in that because the hotel is pyramid shaped you have a step down sitting area and balcony.
The Club Lounge at first sight is a bit drab, but food and drinks are aplenty during happy hour.
The breakfast (not available in lounge) is served buffet style down in the lobby and fit for a king, and service exceptional.
I have been visiting the Sheraton Doha for about 5 years now, and although Bonvoy points prices almost doubled after the World Cup, they have remained very affordable cash wise.
Yes the decor is a bit dated, but if you can put your expectations aside room wise, and run the numbers, you will be pleasantly surprised. In terms of room decor, we were directed to an executive suite on the website, which looks like it has been updated more recently. Not cheap, although a steal when compared to a similar room in Dubai!

Check out the review by Flip-Flop Traveler on YouTube. He rates it very highly and says the breakfast is stellar (he puts it in the top 5 of all the places he’s been, I think).
Really highly rate the Waldorf Luasail. I stopped off for one night, routing back from Muscat to London via Doha in October. Really beautiful hotel. Very good facilities, lovely beach with shallow water, and understand from friends who live there, is a favourite hotel for friends who bring kids over for holidays. The facilities looked great for little ones and teenagers alike (they even have a surf machine by the beach and loads of beach activities). There is also a small water park for kids.
I would agree with that feedback on the brekkie buffet. Definitely in the top 5 I have ever had.

There’s also a review from a guy called Dooly Travels. His videos aren’t as polished or comprehensive as Flip-Flop but he does walk you through the breakfast offering and it looks superb.
