Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Domestic flight ticketed on shortened name

  • 11 posts

Hi all, looking for a bit of advice please. I’ve had a flight booked for me via a corporate travel agent which used my shortened name (think Ben instead of Benjamin). The flight was all booked via BA but has two sectors each way, the first one with Loganair and second one with BA.

Loganair does not require any ID to fly domestically with hand luggage so that is not a concern but obviously BA do.

I’ve tried speaking to the travel agent multiple times but they are unable to amend (even at a cost) and have said my only option is to cancel (refund of taxes only) and rebook. The issue is due to them not having a process to update the Loganair sectors and they are unable to just update the BA ones either. BA were unable to amend it directly when I called as it is a travel agent booking. I identified the issue within 24hrs but BA’s cancellation policy does not apply to the travel agent who can only cancel the same calendar day.

Does anyone have experience of travelling UK domestic with a shortened name on the ticket and was it an issue? I’m hoping common sense will prevail as it’s a domestic flight and an obvious and well known shortening of my full name. Completely understand this is 100% my error, just surprised there is no way to resolve. This is why I always book direct usually! Thanks in advance for any help

    This won’t be an issue.

As you say BA does require photo ID to domestics but the difference between Ben and Benjamin is insignificant on a domestic flight.

Would be different if the names weren’t so close though.

This is something to raise with the travel manager within your company. If the TA has your full name on file they should have used it or at least checked with you if your official name is Ben or Benjamin. This would have been very messy on an international ticket for example.
