Forums Frequent flyer programs British Airways Club Domestic flight, via LHR to SYD, using Amex voucher

  • 229 posts

Good morning all, we were entertaining an idea of getting outbound flight to SYD connecting via LHR from INV/EDI/ABZ. And then inbound from either SIN or TYO using new version of amex voucher.

It seems to me that I cannot book the outbound flight with connecting from, say, INV-LHR online. It only allows me to book from LHR to SYD via SIN.

Is there anyway around it? I was not aware if this is not possible as it allows me to book, other sectors such as INV/EDI/ABZ – LHR – SIN/TYO.

Can I just book the LHR – SYD via SIN section online and call in to add the INV section later and get pro-rata refund in surcharge? Will I be charged the £35 change-fees if doing so?

I have a feeling the voucher only allows you to book a 2-sector journey, though other readers might have different experiences. INV-LHR-SIN is 2 sectors, but of kcourse INV-LHR-SIN-SYD would be 3. It might also be something to do with length of stopovers.
I think you might be able to add INV by phone but I suspect they would refuse to refund the extra surcharges it’s only APD though so a fraction of BA’s “taxes”!. It might be easier just to enquire if you can boo the full itinerary by phone. Is the plan to book at midnight/1 am on release?

I just checked with mine for a random date (17 August) and it is showing both INV-SYD and EDI-SYD fine using my Amex voucher. This is in economy though obviously but should be fine in J if they had any.

Are you selecting stopovers or no stopovers?

Good point, @Froggee – sometimes you need to select stopovers, e.g. if there’s no availability in certain cabin classes on all sectors. Domestic legs can cause an issue as they don’t have PE or F, so you have to select ET or CE separately before you can complete the booking.

    Hi

I have just booked from inverness and you can book it all the way through. you can choose stopovers but it will add to the cost as extra tax etc. if you are trying via the app it will only let you choose london and no scottish airport so may sure you use the computer. also someimtes there are no avios flights from inv/abx/edin to london available and then it looks like you cannot book through to syney. check economy avios to london individually and if this is avaialble you may need to go economy to london and business from there and you will need to phone to do that. or just try checking each sector individually and see what is availabe in businness and economy. also remeber if you choose inverness it is significantly cheaper as there is NO APD from there so choose that over ABZ.
i also someimes had to log out and in again and clear cookies as I think I did so many checks that occassionaly it said no flights when there were

I think you only get charged extra for stopovers if they are over 24 hours? I was just referring to choosing the “stopover” option during the booking process to select each leg separately, even if the flight times are close together, as this will allow you to select, for example, economy on one leg and CW on another, when availability is inconsistent.

@NorthernLass yes that was the idea if BKK is not bringing back BKK or KUL anytime soon. 😀 and thanks everyone for the input. I did try J dummy booking this morning as there were 2 seat available outbound but it did not let me book from INV.

@Vit try doing the booking again selecting a stopover in London even though you would immediately continue onwards. BA booking engine can sometimes be a bit fickle.

@Froggee I will give it a try again, this dummy in Y just to familiarise myself. 😀 I was aware of this “stop over” with BA booking but this morning as you said the website was a bit fickle, it did not even ask me if I want stop over. It just said I can only use voucher for BA flight and not involved domestic flight. But it is good to hear this can be done from others. 🙂
