I’m looking to travel in mid October, I have a good stash of Avios and Virgin points. Virgin doesn’t start their Dubai flights until late October, BA have no availability in J although last minute seats seems quite common.
Are there any other fairly straightforward routes even including a stopover I can use with Avios or Virgin, that I should be looking at?
Virgin and BA are usually wide open to Riyadh. You can then book a Saudia connecting flight with Virgin points which is usually quite cheap. This would also be possible with BA flights to Jeddah as Saudia flies Jeddah to Dubai direct.
If you have Amex MR points you can look at BA to Bahrain, Jeddah, Riyadh or Doha and convert MR points to Etihad miles – again GCC connections with Etihad are quite well priced.
You’ve left it late as Scottish schools, private schools and people who have waited for the crazy summer heat to pass before travelling are competing with you. But keep an eye on QR into SHJ and AUH (both via DOH), potentially starting from BHX as well. QR only charge an extra 2,000 Avios for the local connection and you will end up in F for that bit, whilst their “taxes” are way lower than BA, too.
