Done 3 of the 4 options
The Ivy on the Square, food very average,
    Gordon Ramsays, Beef Wellington, tasteless
Hawksmoor, was ok, better than 2 above but not sensational
I wish they could get some decent independant places on the list

In Glasgow up until very recently we only had the Ivy which I found very disappointing, a couple of months ago they added Gaucho giving us a grand total of 2 local options. We actually had quite a nice meal there but agree it is odd in cities with so many great Restaurants like Glasgow or Edinburgh the options are so limited. We, find it a lot easier to use the abroad dining credit on holiday as there seem to be a lot more options in the places we visit, it would be great if AMEX were able to cast their net a bit wider outside of London in the UK.

There’s no clear logic to the list. The UK options are one visit and done places where the £150 will be easily spent in one sitting. Meanwhile Vienna has cafes included and Berlin has cheap burger places.

We went to Tattu in Edinburgh and loved it. Is it off the list now?

Tattu is the best out the four on the list, as a local, can recommend.

I can heartily recommend Tattu having been during the fringe festival this year. If you have registered your card with the BA estore, this is also a in-store collection partner and currently earns five avios per pound.

Not just N Ireland, none in Republic either

In fact strip out the Ivy chain and lots of towns and cities have no restaurants

I agree the lack of local independent restaurants is disappointing, but Hawksmoor has been very good the last couple of times.

What’s more it stacked with the now-ending 10% off dining promotion, and their £5 corkage on Mondays offer. So bringing your own wine can make the credit go quite far!

Another vote for Tattu if you like fusion type of cuisine.

I’m in Edinburgh early Nov and have booked the Hawksmoor. Only been once before and thought the food was decent. I’ve enrolled in the offer on the app, is it as simple as just using the platinum card to pay and a credit up to 150 is posted to your account?

Let’s be realistic; with the rate that independent restaurants open, close, change strategies, change quality levels or change hands, negotiating AND maintaining even a couple of decent independent options in every city and large town in the UK would be a mammoth and neverending task.

Yes, as long as the dining credit shows under “My Offers” you’ll see the credit up to £150 a few days later.

Going to attempt Tattu later in the week. I note that the Amex site has a star next to it, suggesting if spend ends up going through a hotel it won’t be counted. Has anyone had any issues with the bill being inadvertently settled via the hotel card machine?

Not having a personal Amex Plat I can’t check the list, but get yourself along to Kora (Tom Kitchin) before everyone else does. Its not yet impossible to get a table, and I predict it very soon will be.

Unless I’m mistaken Tattu is not attached to any hotel, so no risk of it going through as a hotel transaction!
On the other hand, across from Tattu you have Hawksmoor which is attached/accessed via a hotel (The Edinburgh Grand) but definitely have their own card machines too!

    Remind me please…

Which of the Edinburgh ones allow gift vouchers bought on the premises?

    Ivy – yes?
Tattu – ? (Mrs Mack worried about gluten free)
Hawksmoor – ? (Mrs Mack – and me – prefer lamb to beef!)

So thinking of taking other family members, who will eat more than £75 worth at a time!

@Colin MacKinnon – do (nationalist) people eating at the Ivy in Edinburgh not mind they are eating food cooked in England, then popped on a van for reheating in Scotland? If you do choose an Ivy gift card, I guess it’s reassuring to know when purchasing that they might already have cooked your dinner!

Having first been to the original Ivy on West St in London, followed by several of the franchises I will now only frequent the former. The only time I would visit one of the franchises is if someone else is paying!

May I ask if anyone had bought gift card from Tattu and trigger the (£150) credit back and can be used anywhere across the UK? I have done it last year with Ivy Edinburgh but was hoping to do it this time with Tattu.

@JDB The Ivy not my first choice – not that there is any real choice in Edinburgh. I am as much a fan of chain restaurants as you are of chain hotels, and so have never been to any of the Amex Plat Scottish offers.

In Edinburgh, you might get more kickback – even from Nationalists – if the food was prepared in Glasgow 😉

    @strickers
Yes, the only Ivy I have been to was the original one back in the 1980s – and the upstairs room last year for a old-style Ivy diner celebrating a milestone birthday.

ps. People seem to talk about the £150 credit – is it not £75 in the UK and £75 overseas in the first and second halves of the calendar year? Not that I can get it to show yet on Mrs Mack’s plat!

It’s the Harvey Nichols credit that is split between the two halves of the year, the dining is per calendar year.

I’m told by a former regular that even the original Ivy has gone right off. The good news is that the Caprice is returning next year, in the same spot but called Arlington (as Richard Careing owns the Caprice name).

JK has been raising money for that as well as a new brasserie on the park at the top of Queensway (sorry to mention that street, I know it’s disapproved of on HfP).

    Thanks @strickers

Looks like The Ivy is a safe bet since it is convenient (we have a flat 5 mins walk away), spend is cumulative, opens at 08:30 for breakfast, and – hopefully – they poach the eggs in Scotland!
