Forums Payment cards American Express Eligible for Platinum bonus points if I’ve held a Qantas Amex Ultimate?

  • 1 post

    Hi!

I recently moved to the UK, and I have just cancelled my Qantas Amex Ultimate Card. I want to sign up for the Platinum Card and get the 75k bonus points, am I eligible for the bonus points or do I have to wait 24 months?

If not the Platinum card, would I be eligible for the Gold Card bonus points?

I’ve read the HfP article on eligibility for bonuses and tried looking through the Amex t’s and c’s but haven’t been able to find the answer.

    Thanks!

No you don’t, the cards you’ve held with Amex elsewhere don’t make you an existing cardholder anywhere else. Technically you’re currently eligible for all of the bonuses, and the usual course of action would be Nectar/Marriott followed by either BAPP/Platinum, then Platinum/BAPP (whichever you didn’t get as card 2).

However, with the current Platinum bonus, it’s well worth skipping the first, going straight in for that for the 100k, then once you’ve triggered that, BAPP (although possibly wait to see if there’s an improved bonus, they offered 60k Avios just before the 100k Platinum offer).

Cancelling you Aussie card first was a bit of a mistake though, as it might make it more difficult for you to apply for a new Amex UK card, assuming you have no other credit history and aren’t on the electoral roll. If you’d still kept it (or if you have another Aussie Amex card, or indeed one from any country), you could/can use Global Transfer.
