Looking to book our ski trip for 2024 at @robs favourite resort Ellmauhof. They have just published their prices for next winter season and wondered if they ever reduce the price over time or is now as good a time to book as any?

They have whacked them up considerably for next year. We just got a quote for Feb half term and (for a room for 4, all inclusive) its €8,300 IIRC vs €6,100 this year.

They may get pushback for the rate rises so potentially it will drop.

The issue, if you are looking at half term, is that their market is split between the Dutch, British and Germans. In some years school holidays coincide across the 3 countries and all hell breaks loose with pricing and capacity. When they are all on separate weeks (this year the German schools were off the week before British schools) there seems less pressure.

For clarity re Elmauhof – it is great for kids of, say, 10 and under due to pool, water slides, kids club etc. If you don’t have kids, don’t go. The food is excellent. Some rooms are ‘rustic’ (but some are very modern) – there are far funkier hotels in the village. The hotel is up a hill outside the village so it is about the only place in Hinterglemm where you don’t hear pulsing disco music until 2am. Taxi from Salzburg airport prebooked is around €200 each way.

If you want ski lessons for your kids then look at ‘Snow & Fun’ which controls about 90% of the kids ski school market in the town. Very good operation with lovely teachers, mainly young Dutch women (since all instructors need to speak English, Dutch and German). There is a free shuttle service from the hotel to the ski school and back each day. You also do in ‘ski in, ski out’ if you want.

The hotel has just built a huge new stables and riding centre if your kids are into horses.

Much apricated @Rob, thankyou for the tips. My kids will be 7 and 4 by next year and this will be their first taste of skiing (including the wife) so hoping to go all out so they’ll want to do it again again.

Seems 2024 is a year all of England, Holland and half of Germany will be on half term together.

I think i read a cancellation more than 3 months in advance waived all cancellation fees so if i booked now and it did reduce hopefully i can cancel and re-book.
