Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Emirates upgrades using Skywards miles

I am looking to book the HKG-BKK fifth freedom route to try out the business class product on Emirates for myself and partner.

The economy flex cash rate allows upgrades to business for 16,900 miles.

When (if) the seats become available, I was planning on transferring the required miles from Amex Membership Rewards to Skywards (instant transfer). Will I be able to upgrade both tickets using the miles in my own account? I understand transferred miles will not appear in the family account so just want to make sure I can upgrade both seats!

Can’t answer your specific question but it’s worth knowing that if there are seats available at the check in counter, you can upgrade with miles. You don’t need actual redemption availability to open up.

I’ve done this before so I think you can, yes.

so any seat, will be available to upgrade, not an allocation – i suppose it makes more business sense to sell these seats with cash before miles?

also you may want to ask the purser who is onboard with an ipad
