Forums Other Destination advice Entering China with flu symptoms?

  • 32 posts

Hi, we are due to fly to China (Shanghai) on Sunday. My partner has got a cold (she has done 3 COVID tests in the past few days and all were negative).

China currently requires travellers to fill in a health declaration form (to be filled in in the 24 hours before entering China). Obviously we plan to fill in the declaration truthfully.

The declaration asks for symptoms such as runny nose, headache, cough, fever, etc. Does anyone has experience of what would happen if we fill the declaration saying my partner experiences runny nose and cough but not the other symptoms (which is currently the case)?

Would we be stopped from flying?
Would we be allowed to fly and then stopped at the border?
Or perhaps told to self isolate at the border?
Or perhaps we could enter the country with nobody saying anything at all?

I appreciate that no one can predict the future in our case, but any anecdotal reports would be very welcome! Thanks, M

    UK government advice:

Passengers entering China displaying symptoms of fever, or with an abnormal Health Declaration, may be asked to undertake a rapid antigen test on arrival. Those who test positive will be asked to wear a mask and may be advised to self-isolate whilst symptoms remain (although there is no mandatory self-isolation for COVID-19).

I’ve not done this myself but the culture now is they are totally over it and don’t give AF about it all. Based on the UK advice, I’d expect an antigen test.

Since she has a cold, the culture-friendly thing to do would be to wear a mask anyway.
