My husband and I had some dreadful service in Etihad LHR to HKT in January – both 1st and business-class legs. We have been offered a paltry 40,000 Guest Miles (between us) or $400 in Etihad Credit (between us). TBH neither is very appealing as our flights cost circa 11k. Which is the better option? Miles or Dollars in this instance? We only ever fly 1st or Business BTW. Thanks, Natalie
Personally I would take the credit. What is the validity? Would it even matter if you dont want to travel Etihad again? What was your experience if you dont mind sharing?
At best case scenario the points are worth if you convert to cash is about £208
Thanks, I think I will do just that. I need to check on the small print re the validity. Mixed experience with Etihad. The 1st class suite is fabulous – spacious with a dedicated bed and loads of storage (a cold minibar) blows Emirates out of the water. The single shower in 1st as the other is for the Residence – it’s small and dark and lacks amenities – is a poor relation and hardly worth having. The amenity kits are also pretty woeful. The onboard bar area is dark and unstaffed and therefore useless. The 1st class crew and attention are both great. The 1st class lounge at AUH – serene smart and pristine (excellent food and drink options) and gave a much more personal service (more staff than passengers) than the 1st class Emirates in DXB. Great IFE and easy to use. 1st class boarding from the lounge on an escorted basis right at the last minute was great. Business class however from AUH to HKT and on the return were poor. Miserable crew. virtually self-service (make your own bed etc.) and sketchy service. I hated it both ways. The crew I think hate the route as they don’t get a stopover and it really shows. Amenity kits are rubbish. No pyjamas (keep the 1st class from your 1st leg or take your own). So a mixed bag really. I did complain about both Business class flights hence the comp.
