Forums Other Destination advice European Golf recommendations (Sept/Oct)

  • 9 posts

    Hi everyone!!

I’ve recently picked up Golf but VERY much a beginner.

I’d like to plan a holiday September/October where I could get some golf lessons and play in the mornings, and (hopefullly) sunbathe in the afternoons.

    Some criteria would be:

    – Warm European destination
    – Either hotel with a golf course & lessons available OR hotel with golf course and lessons nearby.
    – Golf club doesn’t have to be super posh/prestigous – looking for somewhere me (and husband**) can pick up 1-1.5hr session/lessons in the morning for a week. And maybe a driving range to practice on after
    – Bonus points if the hotel has a nice pool to sunbathe by in the afternoon, and a local town to walk to, for food in the evening.

**I’m keen to improve my game… BUT Husband has absolutely no idea that i want to sign him up for a week long golf holiday!

Open to anywhere in Europe that fits the bill – whether it’s Spain, Portugal, Italy, southern France, or anywhere else you’d recommend

    Thanks so much!!
    Katie!

There’s GRAND HYATT LA MANGA CLUB GOLF & SPA in Spain.

Marrakech – stay at the Fairmont Royal Palm. Superb course onsite. With several others in the area. Beautiful pools too….

Then you are just 10/15 minute drive from the fun of the city in the evenings.

It’s a much gentler experience than a typical Algarve or Costa del Sol hotel full of golf bores.

    You don’t want a posh/top course if you’re a relative beginner.

About half the hotels in the Algarve would suit, especially the Quinta ones, but Pine Cliffs matches what you want nicely. Plenty of non-golf things to do, pools and beach, golf academy has some friendly teachers happy to work with all levels and the 9 hole course is suitable for everyone and very chilled out. Plenty of walkable non-resort eating options. AND there’s Marriott so is HfP suitable.

Penina will suit you, you won’t want the championship course but there is a resort course over the road, lessons available and it’s a wonderful hotel near to the village of Alvor with its fine restaurants.
