Forums Frequent flyer programs Other frequent flyer schemes Eurostar travel classes realigned

Since the merger of Eurostar and Thalys, they’ve been juggling different travel classes on each arm of the business. The three classes will now be realigned in a weird and slightly confusing way. It’s supposed to be for travel from 4 Nov, but some of these changes seem to have kicked in already, possibly only for tickets booked from today.

Current classes (Eurostar Blue): Standard / Standard Premier / Business Premier
Current classes (Eurostar Red): Standard / Comfort / Premium
    become
New classes: Eurostar Standard / Eurostar Plus / Eurostar Premium

The middle class keeps its light meal on Blue routes, but Red routes don’t gain one. And there’s no buffet car on Red, so take a packed lunch!

All tickets in Standard and Plus will become refundable (subject to £/€25 fee) up to 7 days before departure. And the change fee disappears from all fares. Just pay difference in fare, up to 1h before departure. This is an definite improvement for Blue, but a downgrade for Red, I think.

Business Premier Eurostar Premium seems mostly the same, but you only have 48h after departure to seek a refund, instead of 60 days.

So in summary: they’ve aligned things a bit, but not totally. And made some bits worse and some better.

Eurostar Premium might be a term innocuous enough to pass by expense departments without query 👌

Red Eurostar absolutely does have a bar buffet. Used to be called Welcome Bar but think it’s been bought under the Eurostar Cafe branding now.

I may be wrong, but I think they’ve started replacing the cafe with vending machines as they refurbish.
