    I’m looking to move provider again. Particularly looking for something that will charge 2 EVs in the household.

    @Tracey E.On Next Drive give 7 hours at 6.7p without having to mess about with schedules. You could then alternate the charging each night?

    @Tracey

    We have 4 EVs and have no problems charging all 4.
    We have been on IOG since Dec 22 and it has been excellent.
    If you have solar and batteries it’s even better.

    @Yuff – we have 2 EVs and are also on IOG, and agree, it’s excellent, and their products will only get better as they evolve, with the launch of their latest £30pm subscription model being an example.

    IOG not compatible with the second car.

    To be clearer, one Tesla M3, one Nissan Leaf, podpoint charger, no solar panels, no batteries.

    It’s always the Leaf that causes the problem. At the moment the Leaf is charging at the standard rate and most mileage is being diverted to the Tesla. We really need to equalise this more. With IOG could I charge using the 5 hours of cheap charging time? Or is it restricted to non charging only?

    @Tracey I’m not sure what you mean by not compatible with the second car. I’ve been on IOG for a couple of years, have 2 EVs, 2 batteries and solar and all my charging 11.30pm to 5.30am is charged at the overnight rate, no matter what is being charged. IOG is linked to an ohme charger, but the batteries and my Tesla (using an old dumb pod point) all charge at the cheap rate.

    @Gordon The Octopus subscription is limited to one car and smart charging only, that’s a lot of charging to break even.

    @Tracey
    It’s one thing I love about the E.On tariff, it’s 7 hours of cheap charging every night. If you plan ahead a little bit you can alternate the cars when needed. Depending on whether you have economy 7 then the cheap rate either matches the E7 times or is fixed at midnight to 7am. If you are really clever you can plug the Leaf into a 13A socket and set it to charge that way at the same time as the Tesla uses the Podpoint. All usage between midnight and 7am is charged at the low rate, cars, appliances, whatever.

    Octopus subscription is not limited to one car. But it is limited to 700kWh per month.

    Are we talking about the same thing? Intelligent Drive Pack?

    The £30 subscription covers smart charging for one electric car scheduled by Octopus, usually overnight. Customers can choose a ‘ready by’ time between 4-11am and enjoy the greenest energy possible at a fixed low price.

    I don’t believe it’s one car, I haven’t looked into this yet!

    @Gordon I just quoted the T&Cs above, it clearly states one car. You also don’t get the cheap rate for the rest of the house during the charging slots.

    From the FAQ:

    Can I charge any car at home?

    No, this is limited to one car only. If everyone starts charging their friends’ cars, then we wouldn’t be able to offer this add-on anymore, which would be a shame for all of us!

    Charging will be for the car we connect to. So if you’ve connected to your car directly, then it will cover only this car.

    Clearly not suitable for everyone, but there will be take up for the 700kwh allowance, as I said originally, this will be good for someone that charges regularly, there’s plenty of competition out there from energy suppliers, so there is loads to choose from.

    Disclaimer – I myself are not looking for revenue from referral codes, just thought I would post as would be of some use to the forum!

    You don’t have to charge the second car( or multiple cars)using IOG, ie octopus controlling the charging, when using the 23:30 to 05:30 off peak period.

    @Yuff But the intelligent drive pack doesn’t give IOG rates.

    Sorry, you seem to be correct. This seem to have changed since they launched a few weeks ago. Back then it explicility said people could use this for up to 4 cars, limited to 700kWh per month.

    I was referring to being able to use 2 cars on IOG in @Tracey’s charging.
    The EON tariff is a good tariff if you are just charging EVs but it depends what else your house is doing in terms of heating, cooling and exporting.
    We don’t use gas, so IOG is a very good tariff for us.

    1,127 posts

    @Yuff Understood, maybe you quote the wrong post? The big benefit of E.On is the 7 hour low rate window as opposed to IOG 6 hour, works really well if you have EVs and battery storage. We also run some appliances at night allowing to export excess solar at 16.5p

    55 posts

    @strickers it all depends how you use everything in your house. The slight drop, in off peak and increase in export rates, don’t come close to matching the benefits of IOG for us.

    My current OVO charge anytime takes control of the charging time on the Tesla, you just choose a time you want the car ready for and it schedules the charging. It won’t do that for a Leaf. So I probably need to move to a time of use tariff. But we are high users, with no solar or battery, so the peak rate needs to be reasonable.

    IOG would work well for you, I suspect…..
