Forums Frequent flyer programs The British Airways Club Existing booking seat selection if I become Silver

  • 48 posts

I made a number of BA bookings before the tier point apocalypse.

One is a 5 day BA Holidays booking in Malta in February that would take me to Silver under the old system.

If I paid the balance that is due soon would that allow me to get free seat selection on flights that I have already booked?

    Many thanks.

Not quite sure what you mean here. You only get free selection once you’ve hit the relevant BA/OW status (so silver/gold/sapphire/emerald). So until you take the flights which would get you to any of those statuses under the current system, you won’t have free seat selection.

Apologies if that’s not what you’re asking!

Thank you @NorthernLass . Sorry I should be more clear.

Currently no status so have to pay for seat selection. The Malta trip in February will take me to Silver. I am aware I won’t get free seat selection for that trip.

Once I become Silver am I able to select seats for free for my flights that are already booked later in the year? Or does the free seat selection only apply to new bookings once I am already Silver?

Okay, that’s clearer. Yes, once you have attained silver (so completed the trip, not just paid for it), you get free seat selection on any current bookings you have as well as ones you make subsequently.

Just to add a qualifier – your status change will probably take a few days to appear after the flight that gets you to Silver.

@NorthernLass and @Tocsin thank you so much for your helpful insights. Very much appreciated.
