My friend applied for a premium plus card and then had cold feet and cancelled it before making a transaction
She then applied through my link for the normal ba card and is using that
Will this stop her from getting a bonus?
I have been given 2 bonuses – I assume they will claw one back. Is this likely to cause me a problem?
Yes. Once you’ve applied and been accepted it doesn’t matter if you’ve made a transaction or not you’re no longer eligible for a bonus on any other personal card (except the Platinum Card) until 24 months after the day you cancelled
You’re are eligible for both bonuses as she opened both cards. Nothing will be clawed back.
Really have to ask why she cancelled. What were the cold feet about the card was already in her possession?
I’m guessing the fee. A lot of people outside this kind of forum think it’s crazy to pay anything to hold a credit card, let alone £250/£300 (has the higher rate come in yet?)
So many people profess envy at our premium cabin travel but then get an attack of the vapours when they find out that some credit cards come with fees (even people with plenty of money)!
Pro rata refund was still available though. Just an odd decision once applied.
I did okay recently 2x return flights to DXB 180k, £700 and voucher recently. Considering its direct and best direct fare was £2k each I’m happy with the fee I paid.
It was – she decided that the 6000 spend in 3 months was too high and without the long haul travel the premium plus card is not worth it. I thought it was 3000 but it may have recently changed.
What they didn’t consider is they are no longer eligible for any sub.
Tbh that was the wrong way to start anyway a Nectar card is the best way in then the person has options of Platinum and BAPP when they are more confident and it earns the most Avios per £ for low fee.
Worth considering when you recommend any other friends.

There was a recent post on Reddit where someone claimed you can get the bonus if you cancel within two weeks. Apparently they were able to confirm it by calling and getting a confirmation from an agent. Not sure if the agents were wrong or what – chat is usually less reliable than phoning.

Pretty sure there was an article on HFP on the matter recently on spend increasing.

Agree – it took me a while to get onto the fee paying cards and those were the days when pro rata refund was a sure thing. With the looming changes @hugog I would be very careful on what you recommend to your friends if you are not a daily HFP reader (and your friends will not read the T&Cs carefully themselves) as changes are not pre-warned and can happen any time.
Yes – it did not go as well as I wanted it to. I meant to help her choose a card and then everything happened too quickly. I am, however, on here every day so will keep an eye on what is happening. The last referral I did was to a gold card and that worked well for Amex as the person is keeping to beyond the first year.
