If I make a booking with FHR and cancel the Platinum card before the stay, will I have any issues?

You must pay the hotel with a personal Amex card in your name.

Even if FHR is prepaid hotel will want to see a personal Amex card for extras.

Doesn’t need to be Platinum though.

I have had some hotels ask for the platinum card itself to view, albeit not very often. I would take the platinum card with you (even if cancelled) just for “evidence”.

Thanks – I will still keep my other Amex so should be fine.

As @Rob says you are only required to produce an Amex card in your name if an FHR booked stay is after cancellation.

Taking a cancelled Platinum card is a breach of the terms, although many people here seem remarkably casual about honouring the contracts into which they have entered. “You must destroy all cards when the agreement ends” doesn’t seem very ambiguous or difficult to comply with.

to be fair destroying the metal card is probably not particularly easy?

That’s hardly the point is it? But if people really aren’t capable of destroying the card for themselves, Amex provides return paid envelopes so you can return it to them to destroy it for you.

You only need to pay on a personal Amex card full stop, irrespective of whether you still hold your Platinum.

It’s a common mistake that you need to pay on Plat according to the rules – unless you pre-pay online in which case the Amex website may force this – and is arguably another reason for doing ‘pay at hotel’.

    Hello

Just checking whether this is still true (only need to present personal Amex card at check in for FHR booking after Amex platinum is cancelled)?

I booked a pre-paid FHR stay using the £400 travel credit but thinking of cancelling my Amex platinum card. The FHR stay is for next year so saving quite a bit if I cancel the platinum card now. Will Amex claw back the $400 travel credit if I cancel the card now? Will I have issue checking in without the platinum card?

I take it that if I cancel my platinum card, I won’t get the $100 hotel dining credit?

    Thanks

Most hotels are fine if you pay with AN Amex. Anyway you WILL have your Platinum card, it just won’t be active and you can pay with another Amex.
