“From 3 June 2025 onwards, you’ll collect Avios and tier points based on the money spent on your flight ticket and the tier-specific multiplier. This means that you collect Avios and tier points for Finnair codeshare flights in the same way as for Finnair scheduled flights. The change applies to new flight bookings.”

That’s just for AY codeshares though, right? If you did other Oneworld airlines that aren’t codeshare, you will still go by the assumption that Finnair has no clue how much you spend on the flight and bases it on distance only…

True, although the earning rates for OW airlines outside of BA/AA/IB is pretty poor. I was going to rely on codeshares to use cheap QR flights, sadly no longer it seems.

My email was slightly different and referred specifically to codeshare flights purchased via Finnair.

Are BA flights all codeshared with AY? This throws all our plans out of the window I guess? So annoying… maybe I should turn to Malaysia?

AY operated flights between HEL and LHR have BA codeshare flight numbers.

There are no BA operated flights between LHR and HEL.

If you buy them with BA flight numbers, you’ll be credited based on distance. If you buy the AY prime flights then they’ll be done based on spending. This hasn’t changed in the latest update. The changes are for other airlines codesharing with AY, primarily QR I think

Phew. What a relief! My flight pattern is basically LGW-RAK-LGW so possibly not code shared with AY. My plan is still on! 🙂

Update. Flew LHR->SIN leaving Sunday arriving Monday afternoon then SIN->CGK Tuesday evening arriving at my hotel about 1am Wednesday am. It’s now 11pm local time Wednesday and my points just posted to finnair. I still have my booked seats from SIN->SYD on Friday (as in should as it is in FIRST) but more importantly SYD->LHR via SIN on BA in J next Thursday in 8 days time. So now going to call/message BA and change the FF back to my BA gold until i arrive at SIN on Friday.

Phoned BA First and no issues changing the FF back to BA. interestingly the miles/points are very slightly lower than I expected – 16,828 rather than 16,908 so only a difference of 80 and the 3000 avios bonus posted ok so I am now officially Finnair Silver and Oneworld Ruby on Finnair after one flight. Off to Kuala Lumpur tomorrow but no points for that but then have KUL->SIN on Malaysian the day after where I will turn up as BA Gold then change to Finnair from the lounge hopefully and again change the QF First flight from SIN-SYD to Finnair from the Qantas first lounge in SIN. looking forward to that as it is meant to be excellent and I’ve never been in there,

If you use Royal Air Maroc website you can change the FF number yourself. I did it a few days ago.

Doesn’t work for me . Have tried with both booking reference and e ticket number. Simply get a message saying:

The system is unable to retrieve this trip, please contact your Travel Support Desk if further details are needed. Contact information can be found by clicking the ‘Contact’ link above. (141 – 284)

So flew MH KUL->SIN and SIN->SYD on QF and on both occasions asked to get the FF changed to AY as I checked into the lounge without issues. Have a QF flight in economy from SYD->BNE tomorrow and will try the same approach. So far so good as my SYD->LHR flight still has the seat booking, though I will change the FF back to BA after the points from SIN->SYD post on AY (the other flights are on different tickets).

Just left the Qantas business lounge in Sydney T3. Again asked them to change my FF as I checked into the lounge without issues. Interestingly the boarding pass in my Google wallet immediately updated to oneworld ruby.

Latest update. SIN-SYD Qantas points just posted correctly to Ay. The lady in the lounge in Singapore told me she had change it so that the miles would post to my Finnair account but she would leave the BA flight from SYD-SIN-LHR on my BA FF so that I didn’t risk loosing my flight. Checking my flight in the BA app it does indeed have my BA flight info and my seat is safe. Flew from SYD to BNE yesterday on QF and that hasn’t posted yet. Currently in the VA lounge in Brisbane for a flight to Melbourne so posting those to United FF.

A rare correct use of VA on HfP!

Are these bookings on separate PNR’s that the lounge agent was able to split different FF numbers between flights?

No! Not sure how she did it but my BA SYD-LHR leg still had the BA details and I had that confirmed by the BA First line when changing this to AY after checking in. Not sure how that was done but the QF flight miles and points ended up in my AY account successfully.

Flying from MEL to SYD today on (another correct use of) VA which will go onto United.

Final flight(s) – sitting in QR F lounge in SYD. Before entering the lounge my booking showed AY as my FF information on the BA website whereas my boarding pass in the BA App shows BA. To my surprise this scanned in the lounge without issue. I asked if I had a different FF scheme without status on the booking but could prove my OW status whether I would be admitted and was assured it would not be an issue.

Very valuable data points across the OW network, Domf thank you.

Not directly related to the post but I always use the Qatar lounge in Singapore not the BA one. Yesterday I was one of only 5 people in there during the BA16 turnaround time so quick shower great menu with table service – so much better than the BA lounge.

It’s a great lounge, I actually prefer it to the Qantas F lounge!

Interim update. It’s wednesday and the SYD->LHR points have not posted which I would have expected by now. Checked BA and they are not their either. Flying LHR-DUB-JFK today on EI in J then R so booking the avios to EI.
